Car horns. I almost fall off my bicycle when a car horn goes off right next to me Shocked

My toaster and the microwave bell. Sometimes I'm lost in thought when I stand in the kitchen, and the sudden noise totally takes me by surprise. Even though I turned the darn thing on myself only minutes ago Mad

The laughter of strangers. It always makes me feel as if they were laughing about me.

I also don't like bright colours especially when it comes to walls and carpets. When I was about 10 my parents said I could choose the colour that my bedroom would be painted, I pointed to 'magnolia' on the colour charts they showed me - not the usual colour choice for a little girl.

I'd trade that for what my kids painted theirs in a heartbeat. They painted them black. My 12 yo daughter did hers that wway because her older brother painted his room black. He had the big room with it's own outside door and bathroom that used to be the attached two car garage. He kept pushing for painting it black and I kept telling him no and his dad kept telling him no. So, he calls my mother and gets her to take him to Wal Mart. He was 16 but had no car and didn't want to walk home with lots of paint. He had been roofing all summer long and had lots of money put back. He bought a poopy-ton of flat black paint for the walls AND ceiling, and bright lime green for the trim. He told my mother that we said he could. I wasn't home. I was in T-town with my younger two kids looking at back to school clothes. I was gone from about 8am to maybe 5pm, right about when his dad got home. By that time he had managed to get the first coat of black on the entire room. Ceiling too.

Well I got home and heard the fit hitting the shan and ran in to see what was going on. My husband just kept yelling at him "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THATS GONNA BE TO COVER UP??" and he said "But I don't wanna cover it up, I'm bout to put a second coat on later on this evening". My husband looked like he was about to strangle him and so my son pointed to my mother, who this one time happened to be innocent as his accomplice to breaking our rules. He pointed at my mother, sitting there at the kitchen table, smoking a cigarette and drinking a coke, holding one of the cats in her lap and reading her book and yelled "NANA SAID I COULD!" Well, that was the first time I had seen my mother take off after him! She jumped up and grabbed the closest thing to her, the broom, and said "No I did not!" and started hitting him with the bristles yelling "Tell the truth, you tell the truth you hear me!!!" and so he did.

Then it was just too late and just too much trouble to paint over because he couldn't get a refund on the black paint because it was custom mixed and he bought a lot of it, and he couldn't afford new paint and Killz too, so he finished the job.

About a year later my oldest daughter decided to paint her room. We told her she could. We meant that I would take her to Wal Mart and let her pick out the paint and we would paint it for her. She took it as "Sure, paint away!" and she also followed his example. One day when she was there with just a couple of her friends and the rest of us were out for the day she got out her brothers couple gallons leftover black paint.

Same story but by then we had found out yelling wouldn't work.

I took a xanax and went to bed' to wait on either Marilyn Manson or vampires to just take over my home.

The big room is now hers and a light green. The room that was hers is now my youngest daughters, who being of the goth persuasion loves it, but wants to put a fresh coat on to "spiff it up".

Oh well.

Sorry for the long story but that reminded me. I suppose that black bedrooms could be somebodys sensory nightmare though.

Whereas in my case, I would love a black bedroom. It's currently pale blue.

I had mine hit me last night. Screaming/crying babies/toddlers. Very close to coming unglued & melting down. Very close.. Caused a bad mood the rest of the night.
Only EMT vehicle sirens very close by come anyway near disabling me the way this does!

Sincerely,
Matthew

I just thought of this. If anyone has a problem with being at the dentist, maybe next time you could ask if you could wear that lead apron the whole time? I always found that to be terrifically comforting (and bought a nice one for sleeping, instead of a weighted blanket).

Humming and buzzing noises, like the ones made by old refrigerators and ventilation systems.

Nothing is as bad as the sounds of eating.

Ok, I lied. There is one thing worse. People talking while eating.

Screaming toddlers/children. That sets me off like no other. They seen to be capable of reaching that certain noise frequency that makes me want to gouge my eyes out to lessen the pain.

Let's see...
Strong perfume (also a migraine trigger).
I can hear flyback transformers in old CRT's, and until recently that got to me, but my hearing has diminished due to repeated ear infections.
Methyl ethyl ketone bothers me (and is another migraine trigger to boot).
Dogs barking.
Nearby lightning and thunder. Probably typically human, though.
Overly loud music.
Crowds.

First it is sound the most since loud music next door to me can be quite annoying and also sometimes noise from construction such as I heard today that was kind of a scraping sound. I do really dislike nails on a chalkboard. Second to sound is smell, but is depends on what it is and some smells do not bother me as much and some make me feel kind of nauseated. Tactile things that are annoying can be a new shirt that is scratchy, but it is less bothersome than certain loud noises such as loud music or TV playing right next door to my office or house. Also sometimes a person chewing can bother me. Shocked
