I've done that a few times, recently someone, unfamiliar to my eyes, knocked on the door. I was so frightened that I even went as far as disturbing my mother from her sleep. She was so angry - "You're 16 years old and can't answer the door? It was only the post - man!" ... Oops!

In my new place if someone rings the doorbell I let my mother answer and if she isn't here I look out my door (I live upstairs) and if I don't recognize the people I shut the door and ignore them. So far the only random people to ring the bell were people trying to switch us to a different utility company twice and some police that weren't in uniform once.

I answer the phone now if my mother isn't here but almost 100% of the time it's either a recording that requires no answer or something where I can say "she's not here" or "we're not interested" and hang up.

Doing the "Aspie stare" thing. I was at lunch with colleagues the other day and the ones in my immediate vicinity started a conversation that I couldn't participate in (parenting, in this case). I tend to get quite bored in such situations, so was just staring out the window. I'm not sure what else you're supposed to do :/.

My girlfriend is in England, visiting a friend. Her e-mails to me: "Ooh! Let me tell you all about the wonderful scenery and neat adventures I'm having! My e-mails to her: "Ooh! Let me tell you all about how I'm organizing the house and the nifty chart I made to get it all done!" No, it's not because I'm so domestic. It's because I like organizing things and making charts. It's just like my exercise plan - though that's actually become more flexible and has come to pretty much be maintained in my head at this point. Oh, and to clarify with further detail for better accuracy...

I suppose I do an ASD every weekday - playing the "number plate recognition" game. There are several cars I see every day on my walk from the station to the office, as I've been able to memorise their registration numbers.

I add the numbers up and divide by 3, 7 or 11.

Happened this evening at a restaurant; My mom's hands were full so she handed me her purse and asked, "Are my keys in there?" I looked, located them, put them back, handed her her purse and said, "Yeah," thinking she just wanted to know if they were in there. I started walking off and she started laughing, "I meant can you get them out for me?" I felt stupid because I usually pick up on these sorts of things. Although it was a bit of an overwhelming night; I had to wear my earplugs in the restaurant we were in because of the noise.

My husband asks me to heat him a couple burritos. Then he correct himself and said three. I would have heated him two if he didn't say three and I was thinking of two when he said couple.

I don't know what is my most recent one, so I'll just list one that happened recently.

My Biology teacher apologizes to me every time he raises his voice because he got the idea that I'm sensitive to loud noises. Once, he was barely shouting, but he saw me with my hands over my ears and apologized... even though it wasn't his voice that time, but the noise of the chairs scraping against the floor.

The first time he noticed my sensitivity with loud noises was the one time I asked him a question after school and the fire alarm suddenly went off right above our heads... I don't know, I figured that most people would be as surprised and frightened as I was. All my teacher did was looking at the alarm in surprise while I screamed, jumped, took some steps back, and clapped my hands over my ears until the shock wore off.

I do this more than I'd like to admit. I'll sometimes listen to the same song over and over for hours.

Wow- I didn't realize this could be an ASD thing but it does make sense. I do this a lot!

My brother said something sarcastic to my mom earlier today. I missed the sarcasm and corrected him. Embarassed

My brother used to tease me about this. I still catch myself whispering something I said back to myself.

I think my most ASD moment today was this morning when we where having our druid grove meeting. One our members is very celtic and she was telling us a story about a schottish hero and how he was hidding in the hills. I asked, enrapted in the story "How did he get in the hill!?"
