What about meetups? Does it always have to be about dating and finding your soulmate? Why not meet up under plutonic circumstances and see if you like someone...... Speed dating for aspies....you have 5 minutes to tell someone everything you know about trains lol... sorry for anyone who's into trains.....personally, I love trains.

Ive been doing meetups since March and honestly it has been quite a good experience.

It started out because I had some issues with my local friends and I just gave up stayed in home for about 2 months. This could have been a solution if I lived by myself but my parents chimed in and started bringing up the need to go back to therapy... I turned to online organised activities to meet people.

Right now I have:
- A meeting on tuesdays.
- Two meetings on Thursdays(only go to one of those)
-A meeting on fridays
- A meeting on Saturdays
And Im sticking with my personal interest(pretty popular thing, you go to a meetup, someone tells you about this other meetup... you start meeting the same people at different meetups and acquired a regular status...)

I havent met a partner from there.
I did however become way more comfortable talking to new people of both genders and found a partner not too long ago because I got used to approaching strangers and starting a conversation out of nowhere(unthinkable not too long ago), personally I think its worth a shot because its free but it puts you out of your comfort zone so many members will probably have a problem with that

i think i am going to switch to just meeting friends on the okcupid. i get messages and girls seem nice, but after going out on two dates where i seriously did not know if i was supposed to be romantically interested, i just stopped responding to messages or sending them out. i think its a great site though.

DH is datehookup.com You can do the same kind of detailed searches on it just like POF, but it also has very active forums and a forum just for disabled dating (mental and physical).

half of them went really well, the other half were pretty much disastrous.

Someone I met there is actually moving in with me this weekend (we're making it official in December) though, so I can't complain.
you're a hot girl...

Sounds like the way you describe the meetups, they sound pretty cool. How to you find them? Is it based on interests, or people with AS kind a thing? Could it be "people who like horror movies?"

I've heard of that site before and even looked at it, but it is pretty useless if you don't live in or near a big city. There isn't much of anything on there where I am and the nearest singles meetup is 90 miles away which is way to far to find a a date.

Same here except it's 60 miles instead of 90 but I don't drive & there isn't public transportation that goes there so getting my parents to bring me there for a meetup thing is too much of an inconvenience. The women going to those things who would want dates are likely wanting someone closer who can do regular things with them. Someone who doesn't mind a more long-distance thing is probably using dating sites instead of just meetup. I've had better luck on this forum than I ever had on any dating sites thou. I think I don't make good impressions on dating sites not just because of my Aspie awkwardness but because of what I have going for me in life. I'm unemployed & on disability because of physical disabilities but I think my personality with the way I am in a relationship can be really good for the rite kind of girl but that doesn't usually shine through for a while doing conversation with strangers but it does when I talk about relationship stuff on forums; the way I am in a relationship, what I have to offer, what I'm wanting ect. Plus rite the kind of girl who would like that isn't likely to be on dating sites & more likely to be lurking on certain types of forums but she already PMed me 7months ago thou. My point is that dating sites don't work for some people but other things might work like in my case posting aLOT about things on this forum

I looked up language exchange groups around my area and one thing lead to another.
It could be people who like horror movies/role playing or anything.

Since theres no set topic we get to know each other a lot in a short time and friendships are started(you are stuck with some people for 2 hours, might as well make the most of them).

Just yesterday for example there was no meetup. However a female acquaintance asked me to help her with something and it seemed simple enough so I went along with it.

We were done sorting her problem in 5 minutes and she bought me lunch/talked for two hours about our lifes(neither of us had anything to do...).
Just so you have an idea whenever we go out(we organise events off the group among regulars) its normal for her to be approached by 5/6 males so talking for 2 hours straight to someone like that and knowing that she is comfortable and whatnot is a great start to building a good confidence when it comes to approaching women I think.

You can say that again, I mean the only bad thing about being an aspie is the lack of social cues
Kinda makes it hard to get a date anywhere
