It all depends on the application. I won't use Hellmanns in a macaroni salad, but I'll use it on a sandwich.

Heinz? Dont you know that sleazy gigolo named John Kerry gets money off that deal? I do not allow anything in my crib that even rhymes with Heinz except for sometimes.

lol, I don't care; it's good. And so is their ketchup and everything else of theirs I've ever tried.

To Hillbilly: I'm the opposite. If I'm making something that has mayonnaise in it, I don't really care too much what I use. But on a sandwich, the only mayonnaise I actually LIKE is Heinz.

I've honestly never had Heinz. I'll have to try it out. I like spreads of sorts.

Did you ever try any Dubja ketchup? Dang that was the best. I think we use hunts. Now if I was buying I would choose Del Monte. Love their ketchup. They also have great canned veggies..as a canned veggie could be great. Now I stil miss Heinz 57 Sauce on my chicken fried steak..especially when it gets mixed up with Pet Milk gravy..yum yum. Now I have learned to live without it some way and dont miss it quite as bad.

It's kinda rare. I'd only ever seen it in packets at gas stations, at my school, or given with subs and hamboats sold by the football team/boy scouts as a fundraiser... that is, until recently. I was walking thru wal mart late one night when I noticed a jar of heinz mayonnaise, and it said "NEW!" so it clearly hasn't been around in a jar for very long. Its ingredient list is populated only by words I can pronounce. It only has ONE thing that sounds like it's not food(calcium disodium EDTA), and it's the last ingredient on the list, which means it's also the ingredient that makes up the smallest percentage of the total.

It says: Soybean oil, white distilled vinegar, egg yolks, whole eggs, water, sugar, salt, lemon juice, calcium disodium edta.

Hellman's has the exact same ingredients, except it contains "natural flavors."

I coulda sworn hellman's had more preservatives and whatnot, but apparently not... Maybe it was Kraft that had all that nonsense.

It appears that it doesn't exist in Canada. :( http://www.heinzitup.com/home.asp

Looks like a passable reference guide for food additives right here. Now aint vouching for their impartiality. Might be the food addictive peddlers put it up. Who knows?

http://www.cspinet.org/reports/chemcuisine.htm#letter_E

For those who aint prone to click links it say EDTA is safe and used to keep metal particles from the processing equipment which makes the product rancid. Also used in margarine..salads etc. Makes me want to eat some..lol.

Its a real heart breaker our Brothers and Sisters from Canada can't get any Heinz-Kerry brand. Eh?

I like mayonnaise but I can't eat it because it is bad for my stomach :( I can't eat many things for this reason. I was suspected of stomach ulcers, I even saw a healer but he didn't help me - what helped me is drinking moonshine.

Moonshine is miraculous. Lot of folks are making it at home nowadays or so I heard. Found out about Hellman's Mayo on one of the TV cooking channels last night. Its an East Coast yankee thing. Non Yankees like Kraft Mayo best.

Has anyone tried a Miracle Whip & peanut butter sandwich?
Sounds gross but might be surprisingly delicious.

You know what's good?
Left over turkey from thanksgiving and avocado cut into bite size pieces mixed with mayonnaise, a little bit of soy sauce & wasabi and make a sandwich with it. Sooo good.

They do have Best Foods/Hellmann's mayo in canola oil and olive oil varieties now. :D Those are good.

Pretty much. I've learned to tolerate mayo if I get it in a sandwich or whatever, but I never put it in anything I make. Oddly the only thing I like mayonaise on is Japanese soba noodles with Worcestershire sauce, Japan has a cool thing where they mix mayonnaise and mustard, and that tastes pretty good. But mayo isn't something I like. I do recall liking miracle whip a hair better, but mayo isn't a concept I really understand. Maybe because I like flavoring my food with spices instead of putting gobs of fatty goop on it.

Well guess that TV Chef was pitching heat about Hellmans being an E. Coast thing. It sorta made sense since I aint a yankee and never heard of the stuff till a few years back. Guess I need to get out more..lol.
