First Into Nagasaki: The Censored Eyewitness Dispatches on Post-Atomic Japan and Its Prisoners of War by George and Anthony Weller. It's the dispatches George Weller wrote when he snuck into Nagasaki. _________________ Giving every man a vote has no more made men wise and free than Christianity has made them good. -H.L. Mencken |

I read Prozac Nation when it first came out. Have you ever read the Culture of Narcissm? It's by Christopher Lasch. I bought that in 1979 when it first came out.
I'm reading The Hacienda by Lisa St. Aubin de Teran, Failed States by Chomsky and The Great Transformation.

You've got some interesting books there jimservo. Animal Farm is one of my favourites, and Orwell's 1984.
I'm reading:-
Ka ~ Roberto Calasso a book about Hindu mythology
Bill the Galactic Hero ~ Harry Harrison
The Golden Bough ~ Sir James Frazer |

I haven't looked at The Golden Bough in many years, but it was fascinating. Frazer was a wild and crazy guy by the standards of his day. Maybe any day, now that I think about it.
At the moment I'm reading the following, in bits and pieces (which is the only way I read anything at all these days):
Principles of Art, R. G. Collingwood
The Crooked Inheritance, Marge Piercy
The Brief History of the Dead, Kevin Brockmeier
I haven't started in on The Haraway Reader by Donna Haraway yet, but it's in the pile. I also want to get my hands on Loren Eiseley's All the Strange Hours. Also every poetry book ever written by Kay Ryan, as soon as possible. |

"First Light" (The search for the edge of the universe) by Richard Preston.
"Dogs of Truth" by Kit Reed.
"The Belly of the Bow" (pt2 of the Fencer Trilogy) by K. J. Parker.
"The Mind Made Flesh" (Frontiers of Psychology and Evolution) by Nicholas Humphrey.
"The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" by Oliver Sacks.
"Out of this World" (An Examination of Modern Physics an Cosmology) by Hyman Frankel.
I haven't actually started that last one yet, and even then, it's all of four years out of date!
Most are library books, and I have to finish BotB soon, because I've already borrowed the final part, and that has to go back next week (someone has irritatingly reserved it!). |
