I love you. For being on this wrong, twisted planet with me, and for the little things. Economics... agnostic... Harry Potter... the Hamster Dance... chocolate milk...
I just found this place. Everyone and everything makes so much sense here...
You're like Scottie -- the first friendly face I see upon beeming up, after living for so long in that awful place. |

I'm 18, from Australia and I think I may be one of the few Aspies that don't mind talking to new people face to face... I have to feel comfortable - of course - but once a conversation has started it's relatively easy to keep it going.
I was diagnosed with AS about seven years ago, and have been lucky enough to see Dr Attwood, thanks to sweet connections on my mothers part.
I've lived with my brother during school, which was cool. But about a month ago his girlfriend accidentally burned down the house -_- so now i'm with my parents again, and looking forward to going to uni to get away from all the noise. Three younger siblings fighting non stop is unbearable.
I enjoy listening to lostprophets, Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park, but most other music gives me headaches.
I used to play WoW - I had a level 70 of every class and an (almost) undefeated 2v2 arena team on my mage with my best friend's SPriest. We held the number one rank of our battlegroup for 2 months before we both decided we played it too much and quit.
So, uh... That's me. |

| I just wanted to say hello, I've lurked a long time and finally joined. I think I can bring some understanding from the NT side of things and I'm looking for answers and help in my relationship with my Aspie friend whom I dearly love. It's because of him that I learned about Aspergers and I've since read as much as I can get my hands on. Life is complicated for all of us, Aspie or not. What a wonderful place this is. |

Hey people, I am Matt. I am 30 years of age, I was diagnosed with something called Moebious Syndrome. When I was a month old, having aspie would not surprise me. It would be grateful. For those who doesn't know what moebious is.. its a birth defect some has alot of different things possibly wrong by look. As I grown up, I faced alot of things, and bulling was one.. they made fun of my speech, talking and just looks.
I have displayed a few signs of aspie, through the years. Being social, is one. Being to myself, is another. I do not like being touched with clammy hands or cold hands. Doctors are ok, they too scare me.
my fasinations are art, computers and film, and anything gadgets and such.. knowing how things work, function
I do not like reading but I do, if I was asked to. Audio book is the best way for me to cope.. reading, I tend to lose space on where I am at.. reading outloud, I tend to mumble after like 20 mins
But all in all I am a cool person, friendly and always willing to talk...
no nice to meet you my name is Matt, glad to be here |

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm 25 and live in Boston. I work at a publishing house. When I was 17, I read a New York Times article about Aspie kids and realized it described me perfectly. I was never professionally diagnosed, but I have a few relatives who work professionally with autistic kids, and they all agree with my self-diagnosis.
I'm interested in writing and comedy. I have a typically Aspie fascination with trains--not the mechanics or engineering; I just really enjoy them. I majored in Writing, Literature and Publishing with a psych. minor and graduated in 2004. I have lived on my own since. I can't drive and don't date (don't know where to start, frankly), but otherwise lead a pretty "typical" life. |

I'm 21 and a history major at SUNY Purchase. I live with my family in Westchester County just north of New York City. I hope to go to grad school to become a librarian. I love, I mean LOVE to read, I also like movies as well and I try to do some creative writing on my own. My favorite novel is The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie, favorite nonfiction is anything by Christopher Hitchens, favorite movie is anything by Martin Scorsese, favorite bands are The Clash and U2.
I have many interests: history, politics, literature, architecture, cooking, sustainable living. I like to invent elaborate imaginary universes, often with elements of fantasy and magic--my favorite fantasy books are the Darkangel trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. I am a huge fan of [i]Buffy, Angel and Veronica Mars.
I am small with pale skin and dark hair and dark eyes. I am shy around most people until I get to know them well. Am looking for both guys and girls to go out with, as well as regular friends. |

Hum... where to begin...
I'm 40 now, and I first heard about AS about 5 years ago or so, when my son was diagnosed. Up until that time, I felt like either *I* was crazy, or *everyone else* was crazy. Talk about misunderstanding people in a major way--I was suicidal for a while, until one time I picked a fight with a neighbor and was nearly killed. At that point, I realized that it was not My Time To Go yet (so stop trying to rush that Time), so I do believe there must be a God in Heaven, even though I think He also has a huge sense of humor.
I finally went and bought my diagnosis about a year ago, and it came about by way of an Educational Psychologist because she was the only doctor who would diagnose adults. (Yeah, I live in Alabama... great state for adult autistic people, bleh.) What pushed me into forking out the money for it (US$750) was that I had been written up at work for not doing something that was expected of me that I didn't know was expected or that I could be written up for not doing... Typical AS problem when we grow up.
Now for the really big irony about autism-spectrum demographics: Where I work, we have less than 100 employees in our division. Besides me, I suspect that 4 other adults are also autistic, and 3 other employees have autistic children/relatives (2 have sons with AS, one has a sister with it). I don't care much for the nickname "aspie" because of the two words it sounds like; I prefer AS or just autistic. (Imagine this conversation: "I have Asperger's Syndrome." "Oh? is it contagious? what is it?" 'Autistic' pretty much explains it.)
I have always been interested in psychology, and I've really focused on it in the past couple of years. To me, being autistic is a gift because I can observe and interpret behavior patterns in people and can usually predict individual behavior. (Call it a survival trait, a hold-over from being a kid and being bullied a lot.) It's also a curse because my romantic relationships never seem to work out quite right, and I'm STILL single, so I just sit around by myself at home and play computer games (real-time strategy).
So... yeah, I'm a cynic. I think I'm entitled, considering how my life's been. But enough of my vitriol. _________________ We are the sum of our experiences... and your equation is unbalanced.
"His age was indeterminate. But in cynicism and general world weariness, which is a sort of carbon dating of the personality, he was about 7,000 years old."-Terry Pratchett |
