Uggg. Please, no animated avatars (or anything else animated). I have my own computer set to not play animations, but public internet computers usually aren't, in which case it's very hard for me to read at the same time something on the page is moving or blinking.

alex... please give us multiquote!!!! |
I find it easy to just type in the "code". It's not really any more involved than knowing how to make something bold or itallics. To quote your message, I merely had to add quote="Strapples" within brackets at the begiinning of pasted text then add /quote within brackets at the end of it. You can do a lot once you know how the brackets work. _________________ Checkout: Folding@home!

Multi quote is a great feature invision boards have. You have a speach bubble icon with a plus sign in it next to each post on a page and you just click on the ones that you want to quote.
But the brilliant brain wave is snapback, which works with mulitiquote. The quotes have a little snapback icon, that if you click on it will take you to where the quote was taken form or at least claims to be taken from. That way you can verify it is genuine, all it is just a simple anchor. There is also more information includes such a as the datetime it was quoted.
I wonder if phpbb has a multiquote and snapback addin around if not I might do one. |

The multiquote idea sounds nice, even though it's pretty trivial to do by hand, but I'd think it was pretty awkward to do in practice, here, at present.
With phpBB3, while entering a post, each post on the list of prior messages on a thread does have a "Quote" button that immediately embeds that post, quoted, into the message. Unfortunately phpBB3 is still at RC7.
The snapback, by comparison, is pretty trivial, but of such limited usefulness that I can hardly see the point. Just because you CAN implement a feature easily, it doesn't mean you SHOULD do so.
However... here's a facility that is available, that I'd really, REALLY, REALLY like:
http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php?i=misc&mode=display&contrib_id=705
| phpBB 2.0.19 wrote: | Remove quotes from Search Results
Search by post results include a the first few characters of each post by default. However in may cases that consists of a significant amount of quoted text, so you don't get to preview the actual post text. This MOD removes any quoted text from the search results, giving you a better post preview. |
I find the search results to be hugely misleading, at times. I think it was just yesterday that I managed to sort out a major misapprehension. User abcd had quoted another user who was saying something like "I am really wxyz". It appeared that abcd was saying that they had a second account on WP, which is against the rules. It is misleading to see one person's words "put in the mouth of" another.
PS. Incidentally, the colour change, etc., above - I did that with "BBCodeXtra" which is a neat little extension for Seamonkey and Firefox. Just highlight, right click and select... _________________ new, adj. Different colour from previous model.

I found it really useful. When you are looking a quote, which is often cut down and want to go back to the original quote it is really convenient. Instead of having to read through a who load of posts you get there straight away. It might not be on the same page. |

It also fixes a problem with the search feature slowing things down. I upgraded my own site to phpbb3 and re-enabled search after having it disabled for months. My site is very fast now. |

Yippee! I've been running RC7 for about three months, I think, and I hadn't noticed the release. I must upgrade. (But not at this instant, 'cos it's 5am and time for bed!)
Thanks, 54, for telling me. _________________ new, adj. Different colour from previous model.

| Sorry if this has been discussed, but would it be at all possible to add a option to one's profile to allow them to hide avatars and sigs when viewing the threads? I would seriously love it if that could be added. It certainly would make reading threads easier and more comfortable for me. |

Shadexii may be able to help, he wrote some code for the Stylish extension for Mozilla Firefox. It currently allows for avatars, but it might be able to exclude them. I don't know this, so I can't say for certain. Sorry I can't be of more help. _________________ "Dracones debiti sunt deflagrare." |

sigs, to my knowledge that can't be done with something like stylish. Avatar images, you could block all images, and that would take care of it. If that isn't ideal then I'm pretty sure it can be removed with a stylish script or something in greasemonkey.
edit: eh... that might not be the cleanest way to do it. The easiest would be to install a plugin like adblock plus, and then block any images that are in the avatar directory. I think that could be done easily enough with blocking:
| Code: | | http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules/Forums/images/avatars/* |
(not a link, just copy / paste. used [ code ] to keep it from making a link automagically)
I don't know if any of them load through cachefly, but if they do an appropriate block would have to be made for that as well. Should be basically the same thing. |

When I click the bottom to stop watching a page and I am in a topic that has more than 1 page and I am not on the first page, instead of taking me off of the list of emails for post replies, it takes me to the first page. But if I click to stop watching a page from page 1 it works. I rather it work for any page that I am on.
Thanks. |

Though I think it is a good idea to require date of birth for access to the adult area, is it / will it be possible to hide that information from one's profile? If it is already available....I missed it. >_< I don't mind giving my DoB for access, but I don't see a reason for everyone to know it. (Yes, I'm paranoid. Quite often over nothing. ) |
