Well I was never given warnings before I was banned. I know it has happened to other members too because I've seen them mentioning it over at I2.

You were given plenty of warnings. Actually, you're lucky that none of the moderators have banned you without warning for using a new name to circumvent a ban that's still in place. That's a bannable offense in of itself, no questions asked, no warning required.

Warnings needn't immediately precede banning. According to Alex, you had been warned previously that threads discussing the excretory function in great detail were not going to be allowed.

Warnings are favors. No member is owed a warning, especially when an offense is clearly against the terms of service. Also, all banned members are welcome to email Alex and ask for another opportunity to use the site. No ban is permanent.

(edit: Didn't see that Alex had already posted.)

Also, don't forget that you created a sockpuppet and used it to troll the site not too long ago. That offense doesn't require a warning. Seriously, if you want to play the technicalities game you're going to lose. The fact that you're able to use the site right now proves that the moderators are generally more forgiving and lenient than most moderators on the rest of the internet.

How so?

I never used any sockpuppet to troll, I only created this one and never used it till last month. Don't you use IPs to know who's username belongs to what and all those other usernames wouldn't match mine. Don't forget one of the usernames was my last BF's and we had the same IP address for a while because we were living together for a month. Then he stopped posting because of me.

That's something of a cop-out if the truth be known.

Pandora,

You're being a bit paranoid. I think that provided you stick to the terms of service, you're not going to get banned regardless of Alex's feelings one way or another. He's professional enough that he's not going to get rid of someone simply because he doesn't like them. [don't take this to mean that he doesn't like you - I've no idea of his feelings]

Sometimes when I realize that I'm annoying people around me, I get a little paranoid about being banned too.

So, I look at my posts to make sure that I'm not accidentally victimizing someone. Sometimes I figure that it's borderline - so I apologize.

Sometimes you don't agree with someone but there's no prize for being the last poster etc. so it's best to just drop the subjects.

I think the moderators on WP are pretty good - better than most sites - and they seem to be fair. So far, in my 2 months on WP, I've only been good friends with one person who got banned. I was a bit sad that they got banned and PM'ed them offline suggesting that they apologize and cease victimizing people here. They refused to apologise and have stayed banned. It's a shame, when a simple apology is often all that is needed.

No I'm not being paranoid or at least not very much.

I don't think you realise the full circumstances since you've only been here for a little while. I've had to take long breaks from the site before because of things that have happened. It's good that you're so easily convinced that people always mean the best but I also get the impression you could be a bit naive.

Aspies for Freedom is a site I've found to be very good and it has really nice people on the whole.
The only thing is it probably needs more members but it's catching up very well with Wrongplanet.

I don't know which banned person you're talking about and it's really none of my business but telling a person they should apologise for something they think wasn't their fault or if they felt like the injured party is an exercise in futility. In fact, they then believe you are siding with the person/people who upset them and then they get angry with you as well and entrench their views even further.

I think you're a very sincere person and that's a wonderful quality. But please don't say I should apologise to anybody because it will make me feel less like apologising. That might not make me out to be so nice but that is how it is. I've got to come to the point myself where I might sit and think "perhaps I was too hard on that other person".

You can tell me all you like that Wrongplanet is a great site, blah blah blah, but I have to feel a personal conviction within myself that it is true. I think Wrongplanet has many good points but I'd stop short of saying it is a great site just yet. I'd say it is an okay site overall but that some sections eg. general and parents are great.

People often don't apologize because of pride, the feeling of looking bad if someone does that, considered to be weakness and that if the person acknowledges they made a mistake and let others to know that, the fear of losing credibility. Hardly someone who has been banned would apologize for some of those and others reasons as well.

I might be getting a little offtopic I suppose with this Razz

I'll accept that... I know I'm naive, very naive... especially for my age.

I like to think that people always mean the best and don't have hidden agendas. I myself try to be like that. I can't play politics, so I don't think that it's fair if anyone else can.

I've not been on WP very long and I'm a little surprised by how much people attack each other from inside. I've already stepped on a few toes accidentally and I'm sure my high-horse avatar isn't helping - just hard to find recognizably Dr Who images which fit in that space and can contain a face.

I looked at a couple of other aspie sites, aspies for freedom was one of them. One site I thought had a really bad attitude and the other site was technically quite inferior and a bit dull. I can't remember which one was Aspies for Freedom.

Sorry Pandora, I wasn't suggesting that you should apologise. Maybe it came out that way, but I wasn't thinking that. I did think that you were getting yourself a little involved in things that you might benefit from having a rethink about... but it's not to say you were wrong, only that you were getting a little emotional (I'm putting my foot in it again aren't I).... Sorry, I shouldn't suggest anything to you.

The person was banned for picking on people (quite badly) because they weren't diagnosed. I can understand having a belief like that (though I don't personally share it). I didn't expect them to apologise for their belief but thought that the might regret picking on people. Sometimes I feel bad about posts a few days after the fact.

Yes, obviously I can't and shouldn't tell you what to think.

I've not been here long but so far I've seen a lot more positive than negative. I think the site is well looked after, reasonably well moderated and technically very functional. Some people go a bit overboard but that happens everywhere. The backbone of a forum is the people and I think that most of the people here have their heart in the right place.

Oh, I think I know who you mean now (the person who was banned). I also believe we have this tendency to get worked up about certain topics and then perseverate. I wish I'd have known I had Asperger's a long time ago.

It would have made so much difference in a positive way. That's why I don't understand people not seeking a diagnosis if they can afford to. It provided closure to me and several friends.

But then again, I don't think Australia is quite as discriminatory society as some others and if having a formal diagnosis meant I couldn't get a job, that would have made me think twice.

Yes, he came back a couple of days ago under a different id. He'd probably have been allowed to stay but called someone an idiot within about 2 posts and attracted moderator attention. (sigh).

I was wondering if I should start a thread on being nice to people but figured it was just a new way to get attacked.

The problem is that I've just received a PM from someone saying that they're leaving WP because they feel that some of the long standing members are picking on them. It's my second such PM in about a week.

It's probably a bit hippie but I wish we could all be nice to each other.

BTW: Nice new avatar.

Hi Gavin, I realise some people probably think I'm really blunt and I must admit that certain things here do bring out the worst in me because they "press" buttons. I also have got a bit cynical and jaded about life.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to put a suggestion that we all do our best to be a little bit nicer to each other (though for some, it will no doubt act as an invitation to do the opposite). I think this is generally a much more wild and woolly forum than say, Aspies For Freedom (but it has its moments too).

I found the avatar when I was going through some pictures I'd saved a while ago. It's actually wishful thinking - it is stinking hot and humid up in Townsville (though we had some welcome rain and cooler weather from Christmas to about the 27th December) and I'm hoping that seeing the snow will make me feel a bit cooler. Hasn't worked yet but maybe it will?
