There's so much adult humor in that show i only understand now that i'm grown up. For the first season or so the restaurant that rocko and friends always ate at was called "chokey chicken". I guess because of parents' complaints they had to change the name to "chewey chicken".

I noticed that too.

Probably my top Nicktoons would be Rocko, Ren and Stimpy, and Angry Beavers - I started to appreciate these after I got older. I like them for their absurdity as well as their more subtle humor (especially the bits that make you think, "How did they manage to pass this off as a kids' show?") Razz

I'd want to buy some DVDs, but it looks like only R&S is out. Confused

Ah, Rocko. (Reminisces...)

One of the only fake Aussie accents that didn't make me cringe. Whoever was playing Rocko still did a pretty bad job of it - actually a terrible job, but somehow, I didn't cringe.

Liked Rocko.

However, always preferred Rugrats and Wild Thornberrys. And even Ah Real Monsters.

Was watching them during my mid-teens, when perhaps I was technically "too old" to watch Nickolodeon -- but didn't particularly care. Still don't.

I was about 13-14-15 when I watched those shows.

Yeah I was maybe 16 or 17 but they may have come out in Aus a wee while later than in America. (Don't know that for sure, mind.)

Rocko's character was voiced by Carlos Alazraqui
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Alazraqui

Heffer was voiced by Tom Kenny. Philburt was voiced by Doug Lawrence. It's interesting to note that "spongebob squarepants" was created by Stephen Hillenburg, a producer of Rocko's modern life. Spongebob is voiced by Tom Kenny (heffer) and Plankton is voiced by Doug Lawrence (philburt).

Carlos Alazraqui is best known today as Deputy Garcia on Reno 911.

I didn't know Rocko's Modern Life had adult humor in it too so in that case Nicktoons isn't just for kids, it's also for adults.

I wasn't allowed to watch Ren & Stempy when I was a kid and my mother prohibited my brothers and I from singing the Happy Joy Joy song.

The best gag from R&S was the croco-stimpy
Happy Happy! Joy Joy!
But seriously Space Madness was screwed up Shocked
I got nightmares from that episode.
Another great Rocko episode is the whole belch one.
Yes, its inappropriate and juvenile, but they can't be clever all the time! Very Happy

Mum got a VHS of Rocko's Modern Life.

It has the episode where Spunky gets that slime in his mouth.
