Yeah, anime fans are unfairly stereotyped.
I love certain animes, but I'm not about to sell my soul to Miyazaki.
Seriously, anime should be treated like any other type of film.

Well, It is my startiling discovery to my releif, that I am not a stererotypacal anime fan. (I don't have cable... tongue ) But I am rather fond of Pokéshipping, as long as it does not go too far. As for many terms used...I have no idea what they mean. (And probally don't really want to know thereof.) Now, I am much known as a "Pokémon fan" (I even have written some fiction. Hmm...) However, I will say, as with anything, there is a fine line, even for example, how the U.S. censors some things or edits some things because they would be a "Culture shock". I have to say, "Close their minds to outside world, eh?" This is my detailed and legthy opion on anime in general. (But let us not start on manga, shal we?)

speaking of censorship........ i hate it when americans take it too far and turn a non kiddie series into a kiddie series.
eg naruto, they made it a series for younger kids that it was not designed for by taking out the adult gags, and censoring the fights.

eg, for some reason u see blood on clothes and on the ground but u never see blood splattering in fights. and there is this one scene where a guy (forgotton his name) gets his arms cut off. in the japanese version you see everything but for some reason in the US version they draw arms on after the arms are cut off.

and there is censoring of the gags put in for japanese audiences which is stupid. they should leave the gags in and include an explanatory manual in the DVD box.

I've never seen any anime/manga (for the purpose of this thread I'm not considering Avatar: The Last Airbender as anime- it's on Nickelodeon, for God's sake), mostly because it was pretty much shunned in my home when I was a kid. Seriously, even my mom- who prided herself on being very open and uncensored about what we watched- was all, "There will be no anime in this house, for it is Violent and Wrong". I'm definitely aware of the stereotypes, though- in my school there's a small group of kids who watch all the programs and read all the books, and run around calling each other "Firstname-chan", and they're often made fun of for it. Agreed. Just because someone doesn't understand a certain interest doesn't mean they have to look down on it.

I'm not into anime, but I don't make sweeping judgments about fans of anything, and it really bugs me when people do.

Wow. I'm even more glad that I don't bother with One Piece in American dub now.
