Those are very good words. Do not feel too bad that she has not said 'mommy' yet. I heard that it's easier to articulate 'daddy' and that is often a first word.
My son was exposed to two languages and the speech therapist told me to stick to English since he was struggling so much. He understands some Spanish, but he refuses to talk in Spanish. |

I don't have enough good to say about the PECS system, which uses pictograms to encourage communication. It certainly expanded my caughter's vocabulary rapidly! She was mostly nonverbal until four, about two years ago; now she uses sentences (with her own unique structure, but sentences nonetheless!) and has recently taken to indicating choices by having the conversation out loud (as in, "Juice? No, not juice. Chocolate milk? Yes, chocolate milk! Please.").
If you do use pictograms, be sure to point out exactly the picture used, and say the word slowly every time. Encourage your son to use the pics to spell out what he wants; when he does so, repeat the request aloud before fulfilling it, as this will help him associate the word with the thing. After a time, you'll be amazed at what he can do with words! _________________ I am RICHARD, Chief Warlock of the Brothers of Darkness, Lord of the Thirteen Hells, Master of the Bones, Emperor of the Black, Lord of the Undead, and Mayor of a little village up the coast.
