If there was a cure for LFA without having to resort to abortion, yes.
If it's between modification and abortion, I'd choose modification.

| It's this realisation that people would use abortion to get of people they didn't want that finally turned me against abortion. They want to get rid of people that are different from themselves. |

Mmhmm. But if you have children with an aspie, then there is a larger chance of them being aspies.

Things really haven't changed, since the 1930s, have they. I do not support a cure. Look at what happened with babies with Down Syndrome. Most of them are aborted, these days. It's bad enough that this had to happen. We don't need the same type of fate, for unborn children, who are on the Spectrum. That's why I say NO for the cure. That's just plain genocide, and that's old-fashioned and dumb.

I was talking about a prenatal method to detect autism/aspergers and to somehow change that unborn child to an NT.
BTW I wouldn't approve of such a cure, either. I just wanted people's opinions. |

I think that nature should be left to do its course, and that if an unborn child is going to be autistic, than they should just let the child be.

IMO modifying one's own sperm or eggs is totally fine with me. Modifying an embryo, fetus, or a child not old enough to consent should not be allowed.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks there's going to be a choice, yes there will be technically, but it's not going to be mentioned. Psychiatrists are not (especially if they make money off treatements) going to tell an aspie child to go research on autism and decide if he wants a cure or not, he's just going to write something down and hand over the perscription to mommy. A choice? I wouldn't call it that.

I disagree. In case of blindness or genetic abnormalities and the such, I do think that should be helped and cured. However, autism is different. |

I support a cure for blindness. I have no problem about that. However, I think that people are born with autism, for a reason. The world needs human variations, to survive. Various genetic conditions have been around, since the beginning of time. Look what happened with babies with Down Syndrome. Most of them are aborted. I don't want the same thing to happen to babies that are on the Spectrum. I also don't feel that the genes of any autistic baby should be tampered with, in the mother's womb. Blindness and deafness are different. I feel that those conditions should be cured, along with asthma.
