I'm the opposite. I hate brushing my teeth. I only do it once a day, before I go to bed.

Put me in the "not often enough" category. Most days I forget, and only realize I've forgotten once I'm on my way to work. When I do brush, I have a lot of problems with the feel of the brush in the back of my mouth, to the point where I often gag or even throw up a little. I always thought of that as a sensitive gag reflex, but I wonder now if it's part of the sensory over-stimulation.

That is why I don't brush my tongue or the back of my mouth. Only the teeth. If mouthwash is available, I use it, but I cannot stand the feel of the toothbrush on the soft parts of my mouth. It makes me want to puke.

I never considered that as a possible 'sensory issue', but it may be one now that you mention it in relation to yourself.

The only time that I don't brush, is when I lose my toothbrush.

I am completely phobic about tooth brushing. I can't stand the smell of toothpaste (unless it's some hippie brand that doesn't smell like toothpaste, but then they often don't have fluoride in them. Besides, I have to use Sensodyne anyway because I have sensitive teeth. But I will not use spearmint!), can't stand the sound of somebody brushing their teeth, certainly can't watch or be in the bathroom at the same time. When I do brush my teeth I drool copious quantities of horrible boogery drool and gag if I don't lean over the sink. I have to use an electric toothbrush, otherwise the sensation is like fingernails on the blackboard. When I was pregnant I puked almost every time I brushed my teeth (delightful!).

For the past few months I have managed to brush my teeth every day, normally in the morning. Before then I brushed my teeth about twice a week, but I would floss also. My cognitive behavioural therapist suggests that I put a radio or something in the bathroom to distract me. I do very much enjoy the sensation of having freshly cleaned teeth, especially professionally cleaned.

Oddly enough I enjoy going to the dentist. I have a wonderful dentist: She always makes me very comfortable with a blanket and a pillow and puts lots of guards and stuff in my mouth so that I don't have to tire out my jaw holding it open, gives me a topical painkiller before the needle so I don't even feel the prick, and then gives lots of painkiller. Also I have learned (recently) how to swallow with my mouth open so that I don't gag.

Both of my brothers are much more typical AS cases than I am. One of them will not go to the dentist at all, in spite of having two broken front teeth from a bicycle accident 25 years ago. The other one goes, but has to be put under general anaesthesia even for something as simple as a checkup. They have crazy gag reflexes.

I do it once a day, though there are some times like when I am on camp that I won't do it.

Rarely. I think Hailey's commet comes arounf more often than I brush my teeth. I can't stand the taste of toothpaste. When I was younger my mother would hold me down and brush them herself. I told her that the toothpaste burned and she said it was because my mouth was so dirty. It also burned my lips. I used to actualy WANT my teeth to fall out when I was younger so I would not have to use toothpaste. I would just wet my toothbrush and just scrub my teeth and lie about using toothpaste until my mother caught on. My mother started getting me traning toothpaste. That burned too but not as much. Today I will only brush my teeth if they start to taste. I will NOT use anything with floride. I might as well use acid. I never minded going to the dentist. I had my bottom wisdom teeth taken out with use a local anestetic. My jaws were so sore I could not hold my mouth open so the hygenist held my mouth open for me. The needle for the novocane didn't even phase me. The dentist didn't want to do my upper wisdom teeth on a local because he didn't think I would be able to handle the pain from having both sets out. What pain. The only thing that bothered me was when the stiches came loose and the constant feeling of a wet string my my mouth. I cut the loose part out with a pair of sissiors. I did not have pain from my lower ones. When the lady at the oral surgeon saw the X-rays of my impacted bottom teeth, she gasped and said "You had those out with a local? What a trooper!" I probably could had them taken out with no anestetic at all. Except for my joints, which I will pass out if they are touched when they are unbent, I can basicaly turn my pain filter off and feel nothing. I once cut myself with an exacto knife when working on a My Little Pony custom and did not know until I saw that I was bleeding. I needed stiches and the novocane did not take full effect and I could actually feel them sewing up my fingertip but I was able to shut off the pain.

Ergh I forget to clean my teeth often. I usually end up doing it once a day in the mornings because I wake up with a disgusting taste in my mouth - but I usually don't bother in the evenings. Bad I know.

Because I drink a massive amount of green tea, I only brush a few times a week,
I also avoid sugar, so my breath has no odor. Green tea contains polyphenols, that
help inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause bad breath.

I loathe the taste of toothpaste but I have managed to find a brand that doesn't make me nauseous. I don't mind mouthwash but it often burns my tongue. I brush once a day or so I tell my dentist. Confused

Funny topic. I used to rub the inside collar of my t-shrits to get the plaque off my teeth. Always amazed at how much there was there. I'm constantly going over my teeth with my tongue, searching for anything left over from the last meal tho.

I had to force myself to get into the habit of brushing my teeth as a kid. Would go for such a long time without brushing that my brother told me my teeth were getting orange. Laughing Funny considering I detested having any sort of "film" on my teeth, or food...
