I know I am joining this late, but I once knew a black girl who refused to date black males. She said most black females do not have respect for black men. Maybe the men are picking up on this and finding someone who will be respectful toward them...Just a thought.

I know I'm joining this late as well, but I believe that minority guys, whether Black, Asian or Latino, probably go after white or light skinned gals because light skinned is the beauty standard that the racist media portrays. For example, the black women who are considered attractive today, such as Beyonce and Halle Berry, are light in complexion. Subtle racism from the media affects the way people think.

On top of that BET is owned by a white person and the same people who own MTV own BET.
What MTV shows are black gangstas and crime. It seems there is a theme going on. So basically while they claim to not be racist they show only black gangstas and not many black people that don't fit their stereotype. Same stereotypical image for women. |

1) Because there are white women available. There are many white women who are not racist, and who do not consider mere cosmetic differences as impediments to a relationship.
2) Because black men can. In America, at least, inter-racial relationships are not illegal. Only a racist would even consider that there is something improper about two people who don't share the same ethnicity having a relationship. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bigots - who don't consider themselves to be bigots - questioning the motivations of one or the other person involved in a multi-ethnic relationship.

Opposites attract.
America is the great mixing bowl, from a functional standpoint it is much more efficient to mix opposites than two things that are very similar thus the strong natural attraction between opposites.
Other than that... who cares?

I always thought that I was the only young black male romantically attracted to white females. I must confess that I have been fond of white females since high school because of their very light skin and bright blue or green eyes which I considered as their very beautiful physical characteristics. As an aspie, I have very few best friends and 2 of them are white females.
I am proud of my own race, enjoy the African-American music (except for today's gangsta rap), and love my family. I am also still willing to befriend and socialize w/ people of all races or ethnicities, but I feel the urge to seek and marry a white or Asian woman as long as she's sincere and loves me for who I am. |

"Soul on Ice" was written by Eldridge Cleaver. His observation lead him to point a finger directly at Madison Avenue. In those days white was beautiful and black was not, according to the media. There was massive brainwashing going on. On purpose? Not in the strict sense no. There were still lines to be crossed and there still are. I think the ethnic lines are coming down, the media for many reasons are more open to the other markets (Black) and presenting them the pretty pictures as well as those with other colored skins.
Why did I go after a Black woman? The same reason she came for me. But there was a time it was strictly taboo. The taboos still exist and some are myth and should be exposed as such.
Fetish? I doubt it on a massive scale. That isn't to say that more men might like big busted women over small busted women. I suppose you could come up with statistics for it, but what would they really prove? The point is some people find certain things attractive in others. It may not have a single thing to do with skin color, but statistics could say other wise. Ya just gotta love statistics, you can bend em shape any ol way you want and some will believe it. Just like that pretty girl on the magazine cover.

The thread title question presumes that there's some reason WHY black men WOULDN'T go after white women (rather than Asian, black or other women).
After all, love is blind.
Black men are men first and black second.
White women are women first and white second.
The poster's claim that the question isn't born of racist sentiments is disingenuous to say the least.
Everybody but everybody knows that interracial relationships are every bit as normal (if less frequent due to relatively less frequent interracial exposure) as same race relationships.
The OP clearly has some racism issues going on - or he wouldn't post such a provocative and belligerent thread.
That said, it's his right to be a racist as he wants.
But it's definitely not his right to try and cause offence to others based on their race or the race of their partner.
I could pose 'innocent' questions about gays and disabled people - in a bid to 'learn' more about why they have the relationships they do.
Wouldn't make me look any less a bigot though. |

in terms of strict numbers, blacks are still a minority. A black man who is willing to date white women significantly increases his potential dating pool.
