I wish we lived in a world where "world peace" was possible. Sadly, there are dictators everywhere and freedom isn't free. Some say there's a dictatorship in this country right this moment...

The military is bad and the US should be a neutral country. I'll tell her that if she joins the military, she might have to kill infants and animals because someone told you to. Maybe not directly, (soldier, kill those farm animals and those babies!) but indirectly. If she's ordered to bomb a location or fire a rocket at some building, there might be collateral damage that could hurt, maim, cripple or kill unintended civilians and they include children and animals. And for what? Some agenda the country has that they're not telling the general public even if it's oil, trying to oust a brutal dictator or to get the land from these people. The typical soldier won't know these reasons.

Why do you tell your child things like they have to kill animals and babies? Even telling her that those people do that indirectly will warp her mind. Can you imagine how she will grow to hate anyone in uniform?

So she should work in a restaurant? Where she has to server alcohol that destroys bodies and causes people to wreck and kill other people? Or is that ok? Maybe she could work in a factory but those pollute. Offices? No, they generate a ton of paper and consume tons of electricity.

Or maybe, she will join the military and learn the truth. That just like any other job, it can suck. Or you could tell her how the military has helped millions of people around the world by trying to stop whole-sale murder like in Bosnia or Rwanada or Germany.

Do you know that even Buddhist are in the military?

You can teach her compassion without telling her these people are out to murder. I know I do with my kids.

Hi. I've been lurking for a few months and finally joined.
But your post finds me a bit confused.
I've been mulling this over for several days and I just have to post a reply.

The other day, you posted about a 4 month old baby getting beat.
You also added the following to your post:

yeah, who would ever beat a 4 month old?

better not let me catch him... I'd totally f**k him up then I'd beat him to a pulp.

If you are adamant about non-violence, then it starts at home.
In YOUR terms, this means beating someone should not a solution for violence
Fighting back is not the solution.

If terrorist start bombing, killing, and etc here in this country, how would you
feel about the military then?? If you think the military is evil, then what would be the
solution for terrorists invading our country if we didn't HAVE a military???

Sit down and talk with them??
Nope. Not going to work.
These guys are wacko and want to destroy anyone who does not believe in their
religion, which includes violence. These are the people that dance in the streets
when a terrorist act is followed through. It's scary and sick.

What's your solution if our security is at risk???

Teach her how to THINK.

Teach her to DO THE RIGHT THING

Teach her what the right thing may be.

For a civilian one would hope to never be in a situation where killing someone or even an animal is the right thing.
But, you would not want her or a younger sibling to lose their lives before she failed to act or hesitated to act because of the list of rules you gave her.

There are time when you need to analyse the situation and make a tough decision. No rule fits every situation.
