Inability to say "no" w/o guilt is common, I believe, in folks with low self-esteem. I don't believe it is AS-specific. However, as many of us ASD folks have low self-esteem, there may be a correlation. I have helped organize many a party after being asked to do so, despite the fact that I have no interest in attending such an event.
I now use the "calendar full" excuse. Sorry: I have a concert/dentist appt/breast implant/brain replacement that day. It makes it easier to say "NO".
The inability to say "no" in a different context is probably a related problem! |

I'll say no if I'm really opposed to doing something, but I always try to be polite to the person who asked the question if I think my answer might offend them. _________________ The part of you that knows the wasp is sacred is the part that knows you are the wasp. |

If you don't have any children borrow some for a while.
You will soon learn how to say NO in the short space of time between someone opening their mouth and any sound coming out.
In fact you will soon be saying NO every time someone looks in your general direction.
You may also want to try No way, no chance, forget it, you gotta be kiddin me, bwa ha ha ha, are you dreaming? what's in it for me etc |

| I guess if I didn't know how to say "no" at least occasionally I would have children! Thanks... but i prefer not to borrow things that can break. |
