I'm like this also. I don't even look at strangers but I try to be outgoing with people I'm close to though sometimes I can't always think of things to talk about. _________________ Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.

Sometime I struggle to think of things to talk about, as there is only so much you can talk about with certain people.
With family members who are always interested in me it comes very easily. |

Yes, you, me and 95% of mankind.
People who are outgoing with strangers are the exception, not the rule. |

Well I am NT, but was much more aspie-like while I was growing up. I was nearly mute in some new social situations. I was really a Jekyl/Hyde situation. You wouldn't know that today, but I think it is a combination of becoming comfortable with a variety of groups of people and also throwing myself into social situations where I had to to "sink or swim" especially with my career. I learned that sometimes I had to "act" in a certain way. For me, the less I avoided new situations, the more I was able to speak up.

| I'm like that. In class, or in other situations where I'm allowed to deal with things of substance or talk about what I'm interested in/know about, I'm almost impossible to shut up. However, if someone just tries to initiate smalltalk with me, even though I know it's with good intentions, all I'm really thinking is "Who are you and why are you talking to me?" In those kinds of situations I just want to disengage and go back to whatever I was doing, because it's way too awkward to keep it going most of the time. |

Ditto, although if I am feeling particularly worthless one day I tend to try and seek out random strangers. Sometimes I find one I can talk to, mostly not. Often I just want to shut myself away from people I know when I feel particularly down as I don't want them to know me in that state and I feel like I kill the atmosphere because people don't know how to be around me. |

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm in the mood to socialize, sometimes I'm not. I am pretty self conscious and sometimes I do have a lot of anxiety around people.
I dunno, it's f***ing weird. I'm pretty erratic as a person... |
