I LOL'd when I saw Michael Palin's name on the list. I mean, come on...

Well, he did do 'The Testing Of Eric Olthwaite', a classic depiction of someone with AS.

King Ludwig II of Bavaria almost certainly had AS, though.

Certainly OCD tendencies, but I would hesitate saying AS... although... damnit, now I've got reading to do tonight. Thanks! *smile*

Really frustrating and disappointing...non of the links I tried worked and there was no bio's to justify the persons opinions. In my mind it just makes people who "claim famouse ASers" lose crediability and start "urban mythes and rumors"...very disappointing site. Crying or Very sad

Agree. It's autisnob propaganda. Until someone develops an accurate DNA test, digs up Einstein's body and performs the test on his remains, I will never believe that he was on the spectrum. That goes for anyone else on the list that is dead.

The problem with analyzing people who are dead is that you can't ask them questions. The problem with analyzing people who are living is that everyone speculates about them and they don't have time to answer any of this nonsense. I think you can tell for historical figures who are well documented (that they're autistic or close). The problem is no one is looking at these people in enough detail and in the right way. There are too many disagreements on what autism looks like in us for researchers to have consensus on historical figures.

I like silly lists like this. People will speculate and this puts it into some perspective.

I am so sure Joon has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder instead of Schizophrenia.

So many interesting guesses, but they've missed out alot of people who have actually been diagnosed(craig nicolls, satoshi tajiri, temple grandin, vernon smith.)

wikipedia is more accurate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_on_the_autistic_spectrum

One person who isn't on the list - or any list of contemporary famous people with AS I've seen - is the author Robert Rankin. My husband, who's a bigger fan of his than I am (I've read a few of his books but I don't think he's as funny as, say, Terry Pratchett), said he heard him interviewed on the radio sometime and he actually mentioned that he had AS.

I agree, trying to spot it in people long dead is well nigh impossible, and 'diagnosing' it purely from the public behavior of the famous who are still alive is unwise. With fictional characters, you're on safer ground maybe...and it's especially interesting spotting it in characters from novels, movies etc. dating from well before AS was well known.

Interesting list. Smile
Though I disagree with having Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes in that list. He's too socially aware and skilled to be an aspie, traits or not. XD
