Revisiting this idea that I "obsess" over music, I finally realized why I loathed late 70's/80's music. As a kid I had to have stuff that followed a distinct pattern/had a melody. Anything that had "fake" instruments (synth) or sounded weird/experimental was right out for me to listen to. (Only exception to that was a couple of prog-rock bands which used a lot of classical elements and most of their stuff was very melodic.) Which is why I loved early rock 'n' roll, esp. Beatles/Stones/Elvis. I still can't listen to acid jazz--too much "noise" and not enough melody/proper song elements for me to enjoy. But recently, as I've been getting more into indie, and 80s stuff, I'm tolerating the "noise" factor quite well. I'm getting fonder of a heavy synth sound. I've discovered that I love new-wave because of this. I think as I've gotten older and listened to a lot more music, I've realized that yeah "x" sound is good, but all music sounding like that gets boring, and novelty/experimentiveness isn't a bad thing.

yea i dont get how people only listen to certain songs from the first 2 albums

im obsessed more with finding new music than details or a certain band, and now thanks to file sharing there are about a thousand albums i want to give a better listen and a couple hundred i wanna buy but cant afford
