Calvin Coolidge, also known as "Silent Cal." A woman once told him "I made a bet that I could get you to say more than two words." He replied "You lose."

Dwight Eisenhower was the man, all he did was serve his two terms. Create the Interstate System and fought a few times for racial equality.

Well, there was the part about starting the Vietnam war. And also helping brutal dictators like Mubutu come to power. That would probably be a negative. Plus the continued expansion of big government. I prefer Silent Cal.

Yep, definitely time for this thread to move to PPR. Mods please?

I don't see why people are voting for FDR either. I'm somewhat surprised no one has voted for Clinton, given the left-wing slant of WP and the fact that Carter seems to be so popular.

This thread makes me feel like puking.... It's almost blatant authority worship. Presidents and politicians are merely puppets being pulled on the strings by lobbying corporations. The entire damn system is psychopathic.

But if I had to say one, it would be JFK, for the single fact that he was a pawn being used rather than an open participant in the agenda, and he stood up to the banks, for the people. He was mildly crooked but I don't think he was psychopathically crooked. Which is very possibly why he was assassinated.

Teddy Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge. All the others weren't worth a tinker's cuss, as they say.

Clinton - blowjobbed out of office.

George Bush Sr - Failed in his attempt to stop Saddam.

Reagan - past it even before he was elected, dodgy memory and ex B grade actor.

Carter - Forgettable.

Ford - Only thing famous about him is his wife's clinic.

Nixon - insane and paranoid.

Johnson - Continued the fight in Vietnam, which led to the US losing in 1975.

Kennedy - brought everyone to the brink of nuclear war, and was assassinated later on. Besides, he said to the Germans that he was a doughtnut.

Eisenhower - Two terms in a boom period where there were no direct conflicts, probably ineffectual.

Truman - responsible for dropping the H bombs to wipe out Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end WW2.

FDR - got America out of the depression by getting them into the war. Waited til 1941 when Pearl Harbour was attacked, while the Brits asked for help earlier. He said no at the time.

Hoover - depression president, whole world was in trouble. Can't blame him for the market collapsing.

Coolidge - didn't need to do anything, therefore couldn't muck anything up.

Wilson - WW1 president, US didn't involve themselves until the war was nearly over.

Taft - not much can be said about him, though I heard that he played up a bit.

Teddy Roosevelt - pioneer, led country after 1890s depression, was a man who got out and did things.

The others whom I've left out are probable so forgettable as to not warrant mention.

how about taking it as an analysis of the policies and programs each president did. not to worship but rather to analyze and contrast with your own personal political views.

what are your views? anarchist? libertarian?

he also pardoned the draft dodgers and worked to unify the country after a long and divisive war. i'm not sure how highly you'd rate his job but that's one of his big presidential accomplishments. i think he kinda failed on it but at least he acknowledged it and tried. bush's political wing (the neo-cons) have only served to divide the country up more and more and has hurt the country not only economically, not only in the world view, but also on the country's psyche. he's driven a deep rift between people.

Hi All;

I didn't vote because I'm very closely divided between TR, Ike, and Bush Sr., (always considered him the brains of the Reagan administration).

I'm also very closely divided as to the worst since 1900. My choices would be: FDR, LBJ, & W! Oh, and I voted for W..., twice!
Yea, it's my fault. Sorry.

Regards,

Haha, I've read this too. I love that story.

Anyway, I voted for Truman.
