Would she actually have said that, or is that what you would have heard? If she actually did say that, I am unfamiliar with it. I would interpret it the same way as you did... I have no idea how that has anything to do with gold toe rings... is my vocabulary lacking... you were joking weren't you? or maybe she was joking.

No. She will have actually said "Have you seen my gold toe ring." I will hear the sound coming out of her mouth. Her voice is not muted or muffled, but I will not process it correctly. I will hear the nonsense words and actually think that is what she said.

It may seem like I am joking, but at the time it seems perfectly logical to me.

On a similar note, like many kids, I used to invent my own "secret language" and have long conversations of gibberish with myself. I wonder if this is AS related.

I'm not sure. Maybe it's my hearing or maybe it's their speaking, sometimes it just sounds like people are mumbling and not speaking very clearly or loudly. I'll hear part of what they say, then miss other parts, so I have to repeat what I heard and ask them what I missed.

Sometimes when I ask someone what they said they'll tell me I heard them, but I have no idea what it was they said.

My hearing is fine, but my auditory processing is not so good. I mishear stuff a lot and I can't hear when there's too much background noise going on.

I used to have excellent hearing; I always heard the beeps the machine made that you weren't supposed to actually hear because they were so quiet. For whatever reason, however, my hearing is not as good as before; it's not that it's bad, but just that I don't hear everything.

I also have problems comphrending what people say. I have to ask them to repeat themselves multiple times if it's not someone I'm very familar with.

After blasting my music loud for a long time, I don't hear very well anymore.

My hearing is more delayed than bad. Sometimes something someone says won't register right away. Usually by the time I ask them to repeat themselves, what they said the first time clicks.

My hearing is actually quite good, but I have difficulty understanding people if there's even the slightest amount of background noise.

I often get the same results... though I have always attributed it to my actual hearing loss (I was born with a hearing loss of at least 70 decibels). Now I am beginning to think that it really could be part of some processing problem. I will ask people to repeat and then before they can actually repeat it I understand completely what they said... It feels completely strange yet it has always been this way with me.

I also get very distracted by any background noise at all, especially noise that isn't constant. For example- bird songs and people talking. This just makes it much harder to carry any conversation in an environment of changing noise.

I have hearing issues, which seeems to relate to the noise in my head, which is connected to my bouts of vertigo, etc. I do a lot of lip reading, as I have times when my hearing is definately one-sided.

I even had to explain to my boss, that if she ever said something to me and I looked at her like I had no idea what she was talking about, or gave an answer that made no sense, that I was not being difficult. Sometimes I'll repeat a question to make sure I heard what I thought I did.

I hear fine, but I usually have trouble picking up the first couple words of a sentence if I'm working on something. It's like it takes me a couple seconds to realize someone is talking to me and that I need to start processing the words.

No, my hearing is very good. I'm always hearing things other people don't hear. But very often when people talk to me it just sounds like vhamwah wo wah wahwah and I need them to repeat themselves. So everyone thinks I have bad hearing.

I have difficulty hearing what people say to me and I also have trouble with hearing the TV. I have to watch people's lips while they speak and I usually have closed captioning on the TV. I also have trouble with background noise and movements distracting me from hearing what is being said. I am very ADHD.

I have Meniere's Disease and have had Tinnitus in both ears (ringing) 24/7 since about 2002 or 2003. I've had it off and on my whole life. I've had my hearing tested twice as an adult and the first time, the lady told me I was borderline for needing hearing aids and the second time I was tested, the man told me my hearing was fine. I do believe that I have Central Auditory Processing Disorder.

I drive everyone around me crazy because I have trouble hearing them. My 23 year old son is especially bothered by it but he mumbles and slurs and talks too softly and talks too fast. He fusses at me everyday "Get a hearing aid!"
