| I'm going to be a senior next year (Thank the LORD!). I'm so sick of high school... I cannot wait for college. |

| High school sure did suck for me! I started a year late because I was held back in the 8th grade even though I did not need to be since I met the requirements to advance to high school. When I finally did make it to high school, I was placed in too many classes that were not appropriate for me, and spent a lot of time in self-contained classes where I was not really learning anything. Also, I never got to participate in any extracurricular activities that were supposed to make high school fun. I was a total outcast who never really had any friends and was a frequent target for harassment. I eventually dropped out because I believed that there was no way I was going to get all of the credits required for graduation since I was being kept out of classes that were needed in order to obtain those credits. I certainly do not miss high school one bit! |

The main reason I hate high school is that I think it isn't preparing me for college at ALL. Most of it is way too easy. _________________ "A witty saying proves nothing." -Voltaire |

| High school, for all you may complain about it, is in fact the easiest, happiest time of your life. |

Academically, maybe. I prefer college socially, and not having to move away from my parents or take out any loans helped. |

You won't know that until after you've graduated. College is much worse socially and academically. |

| Secondary school totally sucked. Didn't help that I went to five schools in four years. Kids gave me hell because I was so different, and teachers did not understand me because of my undiagnosed AS. To make it even worse I had to repeat Year 10, so I was with people a year younger than me. Finally I am free from school, am going to college in September. |

I think high school is an application of an industrial principle to education, a flawed concept. It does not take into account individual variations, and is in essence a 'one size fits all' approach, however I find as I progress through progressive years, the diminishing number of students does mitigate this effect somewhat.
In conclusion, do I hate High School? Yes, but diminished. |

Social alienation was a big issue.
Classes were unengaging and teachers were not usually very good or kind.
It was a large school, so there were crowds. I don't do well with crowds. At all. Chaos, noise, and disorder are bad for me.
I was not accepted as an equal, and only begrudged and reviled when I managed to demonstrate superiority in any area. In other words, I was not permitted to be viewed as anything but inferior without opening myself to open hatred from my "peers."
University is much, much better. People here accept me, almost unconditionally. They aren't complete dicks towards others. I take classes I am interested in, and my professors are great. I have friends here ( ) and have even met at least one other Aspie. The two of us happened to become friends before we each discovered that the other was Aspie. But, we are part of a small group of friends that also includes NTs. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

Not true. College is great for me thus far. Especially socially. And high school sucked. If that was the happiest time of my life, it's not much of a life I'm living. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

1 good thing about h.s. is you often have friends from when you were little...when you get to college it can be more of a challenge to make friends because many aspies are bad about initiating or maintaining conversations...
h.s. forces you to be around some of the same ppl all day, which can be good because it forces you to interact...at some colleges you never talk to the person sitting next to you...its unkosher even for NTs...
that being said, I liked both and had friends at both...when it was at its worst, h.s. was still better than college at its worst...but college at its best is wayyyy better than h.s. at its best. |
