I had a psychiatrist was more of a glorified drug dealer with a MD. I stopped Zyprexa because it made me sleep so much, I was missing university classes and I gained weight as well. Just because some relatives have bipolar disorder, it doesn't mean that I have it, especially when the only symptom I had was depression. Not too long after the Zyprexa fiasco, I decided to go off the Paxil as well, since I really didn't need it. If I decide to get therapy for some reason again, I'll be firm in saying that I do NOT want to be referred to a psychiatrist because I don't need drugs.

Some of those drugs make you chemically dependent on them also. When I stopped taking zoloft, I had to take several warm baths a day to calm the tremors, and I had less of an appetite. I felt much better after it was all out of my system. Seriously my OCD wasn't that bad. Every now and then I take a klanipin for anxiety, and that's it. If I'm not anxious every day, than why would I take a happy pill daily? It wouldn't make sense.

I stopped taking ritiallian because I heard it can have some bad side effects in the long run like depression and sucicide. But I also didn't like it because I didn't feel in control of myself. I start taking it again since I need to focus.

I stopped taking Luvox because I lost the prescription. The withdrawal made for an interesting few days.

I stopped the Trazadone because I developed a migraine everytime I took it. I still take Celexa, when I'm reminded to.

I took Risperidone and Abilify (antipsychotics) but I stopped taking them when I realised that my hallucinations were just caused by stress. So I took action to stress down instead of taking meds and I've been hallucination free since (it was four weeks ago or so).

I took Zoloft for a little bit, but it had no noticeable impact at all. People kept telling me to take it, not realizing that I had already taken it that day.

Unsupportable in the long run.

Insurance companies fold, then what?

Medicare is looking at big cuts. In congess today for votes. Then what?

During Katrina the medicated patients had a terrible time. Those on methadone maintance did even worse.

The "plan" to aid methadone users during an emergency is to give them asprin and keep them comfy. Uh- say what?!

So certainly being dependent on a measly SSRI would not make a blip in an emergency.

With health care teetering and terroist attacks always threatening, who can afford to get addicted to a drug that will not be available?

It may seem this is just going to the extreme, but if you've lost health insurace even for a day, you know it CAN be extreme. There is no mercy. You MIGHT get drugs in a free clinic, but by the time you get the paper work filled out, etc. etc., and make your appeal, you're completely withdrawn from it anyway.

I stopped taking Adderall because it made me really obsessive and left me sleep deprived. I don't need drugs to stay up all night obsessing; I can do that on my own.

I stopped taking Effexor because of nasty side effects.

I stopped taking other drugs because they did not address my problems because I am an Aspie. The only drug that I have found helpful over the long term is Xanax.

Now I'm on Abilify and it's too soon to know if it has any side effects for me, but I have a drug that's safe for pregnant women which is supposed to take away the side effects, so I'll probably be staying on Abilify.
