It is a very good point that op made if you would not be able to tolerate your family as strangers you should not have to tolerate them anther wise. My biggest regret sometimes is when I ran away after years of abuse I did not run far enough and was found and brought back

I was physically emotionally and sexually abused and neglected but nothing as bad as you describe you are strong and resilient never forget that

If a label will get him early intervention particularly with the sensory issues you describe Go for it
A good occupational therapist and speech therapy could be life changing fir him

Would welcome advice regarding my teenage daughters excessive consumption of food she is gaining weight rapidly but I don't want to trigger any eating disorder by doing the wrong thing

I entirely agree with OP knowing my eldest daughters diagnosis changed my perception expectations and understanding of how she behaves and has also greatly helped my third daughter who is also asd because I "get her" now I have also found this forrum to be a great blessing so thanks to all...

I will keep working on connecting I hope she knows she is loved she is truly epic one thing that is difficult is that when she is sad the usual for the neuro typical hugs talks etc do not help I long to reach out and touch her but cannot
