I'm getting a little better at those things. Life experience, and all that. Because it totally depends on Who's Asking. If it's a very casual acquaintance, a store clerk, a co-worker you hardly ever talk to, who's asking "What's up?" or "How are you?" – they aren't really request...

Legislation nowadays often has a misleading name. See also:

Patriot Act
Affordable Care Act
Defense of Marriage Act

If they ever propose a Chocolate Tastes Good Act, read the fine print. It will probably make chocolate less sweet and more expensive.

Over on Facebook I know quite a few libertarians, conservatives, Objectivists, and so on – and most of them pretty much quit posting political stuff after the primaries. The feeling being, and some stated this explicitly: 'We no longer have a horse in this race. Both candidates are awful, but there'...

Sure, I grew up around hot rods and drag racing, and I'll watch about any kind of motorsports. Unfortunately my favorite NASCAR driver – Mark Martin – has retired, and I haven't really found a new guy to root for.

'Not believing in a deity' is a personal decision, not an institution, so it can't be 'hijacked.' And as others have pointed out, there are plenty of nonbelievers who can be called 'right wing,' so if you announce that you're an atheist few will assume that you're a leftist as well. The far left, th...

I have to question how close Jefferson and Adams were in their post-political lives, as the last thing Jefferson was alleged to have said before dying was, "My one regret is that Adams lives." Though Adams had actually passed on hours before. Jefferson's last recorded words seem to have b...

I am selfish, in that I try to live for my own rational long-term interests. I don't want to sacrifice my life or my judgment to anybody else, and I don't want anybody else sacrificing himself for me. The world would be a lot better off if all human relationships were purely voluntary and mutually b...

Whoever wins, the rest of us lose. :(

Since I reached voting age, every new President has struck me as worse than the one before. I thought we'd hit rock bottom with Obama, but clearly I was being wildly optimistic.

I think it's well deserved, but I hope it's a one-off. Dylan yes, Barry Manilow and Fifty Cent no.

This is all very laughable, just like the "jail Dick Cheney and Bush" screams from last decade. Read your constitution, elected officials have immunity, it would take a constitutional amendment to change it-- good luck on that. So they can murder anyone and get away with it? If they did i...

Sure it is. I don't agree with Gary Johnson on every issue, but he's obviously the only decent, honest, rational adult in the room. The other two candidates are both emotionalist, corrupt demagogues, campaigning on fear and fantasy.

Probably not what you meant though. 8)

A hundred million murder victims, killed by their own big governments, might have something to do with it. Statism = death.

Having worked a variety of jobs, I can add that labor work typically involves a lot of standing, and some repetitive motion – but in most cases this isn't really effective exercise. Sure, you can stand for eight hours straight, which certainly burns some calories, but it's hardly a proper workout. J...
