So I understand that "talking to yourself" refers generally to speaking aloud when you're by yourself, but I've always been unclear on motive. Does "talking to yourself" mean that you speak, then you reply back to yourself as another might? This would be a true conversation with...

I have realized what my new passion is. :D  I have become obsessed with socializing. :? Yeah Im the same. All night I dream about people, there are many NTs in my dreams, but I seem to have no problems interacting with them. But, all night I sit in bars and restaruants with people, or climb mo...

I have often wondered about this. I think I do have a sort of obsession with social interaction and the 'ideal' way of socialising. I do a lot of practise and social rehearsal on my own. I monologue a lot by myself (not just to practise but also as a way of systemising my thoughts about things I fin...

Do you ever use solitary monologuing/talking to yourself as a way of engaging with special interests? Will you ever find yourself talking to yourself about your interests when you're all alone? I find that I can really hyperfocus this way and once I start talking to myself I lose sense of time compl...

I have trouble taking verbal instructions and in the past (especially when I was younger) it has made me feel really unconfident. It's as though I just really don't understand what is being said to me but if it was written down in the form of a list I would understand it perfectly well. I struggle ...

I cannot listen to lectures. I can't sit in class and listen to the bla bla bla. I always zoned this out even as a small child and I used to think I would grow out of it but never had. When I was young I would fidget and not sit still so that was their reason for saying I had ADD and possibly ADHD ...

A lot of autistic people struggle to learn or absorb auditory information or information conveyed through speech by others (as opposed to text - many autistic people will need subtitles when watching video clips or films etc.) Are there any specific kinds of auditory information that you find the mo...

-It's distracting and hard to think about what I am saying. This is true for me as well. I either get stuck, babble nonsense or I need to avert my eyes from their to collect my thoughts. I have the same problem, I can give eye contact when listening just about in order to be polite but talking to t...

Does reading out loud ever help you focus better on the text? This doesn't seem like an autistic trait, and in fact considering a lot of autistic people prefer to learn in ways other than via auditory information, seems maybe more neurotypical or allistic. Would be interesting to know if any of you ...

What do you hyperfocus on? If things you hyper focus on include particular topics of interest that you read about I have another question for you: - is your concentration ever interrupted when you do not understand a section of the text? This could be a sentence or a word etc. Does that break the fl...

I don't have ADHD but sometimes get these bursts of hyperactivity where I just jump around and sing and laugh and basically go crazy like a hyper kid. It's not totally uncontrollable but it is a large contrast from my normal quiet, low keyed, dry humorous and relatively slow moving self. It doesn't...

Does anyone ever feel strangely hyperactive in the evening? Is it to do with staying at home for most of the day? I find myself getting strange surges of energy usually around dinner time (before I've eaten).
(I'm not employed at the moment - working at home instead on PhD applications). |

I rehearse how to talk about a topic that interests me, whether or not I will ever get an opportunity to talk about it. I'm not sure if this is social rehearsal. I really don't put too much importance on the social aspect of things and don't think it out ahead of time. I don't know what to expect a...

Social rehearsal occurs in both social anxiety and autism. Autistic people can also have social anxiety as an outcome of their social difficulties. However, what do you think is the difference between the way nonautistic socially anxious people rehearse situations and the way autistic people rehear...
