This is a simple webapp I made to help me keep track of my life. I have a strong tendency to feel like everything is horrible whenever something goes wrong in my life. I also have a tendency to think everything is perfect just because something goes right. I made this to try and give myself a little...

This is something I wrote last summer, a few weeks before I discovered autism. There's obviously a lot more tied up in this than just depression, but I wrote this to try and describe to my friend what I meant when I said I was depressed. Picture yourself on an ice floe. You don't really know how you...

I'm very sorry to hear you are feeling so depressed. I know how horrible that is. I'm honestly afraid that I'm slipping back into depression myself. The way you address depression reminds me of how I talk to my own psychology sometimes. This song always defined the expeience of being depressed for m...

I find that for me, the more screen space, the better. I have tried to use different workspaces, virtual desktops, but I just forget about when the time comes. I'd end up with 10 different terminals open, each of which had one command executed. By having more monitors, everything is right there. I u...

For anyone who wants some Eagles nostalgia, I highly recommend the "History of the Eagles" documentary. Documentaries can rarely hold my attention, but these guys really had a pretty amazing ride.

RIP

[H]ow do you feel now that you know about it? I'm still sorting that out :) I've seen some of your other posts, and I recognize a lot of myself as a younger man in what you say. I think a lot of what you are grappling with are just human issues, that everyone has to go through in their own way. The...

Something I've found really helpful is to do something to help another person. It makes me feel less useless, and it forces me out of my own head, at least for a little while.

Anyway, my question is: I told my close people about possibly having AS and they did not believe me (and refused to look at the charts I printed off). Does anybody have a similar experience? That's what happened to me too. I told them I was going to get diagnosed, and in the meantime, they could ei...

Before I learned what autism was, I actually barely had my concept of my identity. All I had was a relentless drive to fit in. In 2009, I went to a college friend's wedding. This was just after everyone had signed up for Facebook. I was blown away by how everyone knew what was happening in each othe...

I've actually thought about this question for my whole life. I had no concept of "autism" at all until just a few months ago, but I certainly knew I was different. I would some fantasize about what it would be like to be able to fit in, to go on a date and know if the other person liked me...

Disclaimer: I am not an expert, I am not trying to diagnose you. Speaking for myself, my anxiety does not stem from imagining things that might happen. It is often an overreaction to normal interactions. For instance, yesterday my boss assigned me a task for work. Then he said, "Do you want to ...

I've been to club shows too, but they don't seem to have that same physical intensity. Sonic Youth is ridiculous. I saw them on a reunion tour a few years ago and they were amazing. B-52s I saw at the Del Mar Racetrack (they have free concerts after the last race some days), and they were surprising...

In that case it I find the remark about "rethinking existence" to be really offensive. That line certainly hit me hard too. "Rethinking my existence" has been something of a lifelong hobby, and not one that I have ever found pleasant or would encourage anyone else to engage in. ...

This is where I started:

http://www.autism-society.org/about-the ... -referral/

They directed me to the South Carolina Autism Society, who referred me to a a local therapist and a psychologist. I just sent an email to the address on that page.
