Thank you everyone for your responses so far! I was never bossy. I was the one who got bossed, and I was okay with it. Playing the way other kids wanted to play was fine by me so long as no one was in any danger or being treated unfairly. That passage should be in a book entitled "A Complete Gu...

Film noir. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetics - the camera angles, lighting, the use of shadow, even the clothes (especially the women - love the femme fatale look!). But nine times out of ten I find the plots extremely boring. I have an opposite feeling toward the fantasy genre however - I quite enjo...

So I finally got around to reading Tony Attwood's "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" and came across something interesting. Apparently, some children with Asperger's will play with friends as long as they can be the 'boss.' Or the 'mom' or the 'teacher.' If other kids try to play ...

I do get PMS every month. I put down 'mild' because while it always happens, it's not some massive difference. I'm just a bit more irritable, I have a slightly stronger appetite. I'm a bit clumsier, a bit more prone to headaches, and I have mild digestive issues (though, this could just be because I...

By the time I signed up for this forum, it had been two years since I read that first wiki article and took that one online quiz. I did read other articles and blogs over the course of a few sleepless nights after, but then, like birdinflight (whose posts on this thread I relate to very much) I put ...

I think it's actually pretty awesome. Everywhere I go I'm seeing kids and families walking around, exploring the city, being out. It gives people (kids, especially) who might not otherwise leave the house, or might just go hang out at the mall or whatever, a reason to get out into their community. Y...

I've actually been avoiding this thread because I was a bit embarrassed by it, but your words have made me feel a lot better. I'm actually crying a bit right now! btbnyrr: I do agree the core problem here is lack of understa... |

For me it's more like... I grew out of certain autistic traits, but others took their place. I was a weird kid but as an only child with rather eccentric (possibly on the spectrum themselves) asocial parents a lot of my quirks were explained away or not seen as odd because they had nothing to compar...

Yeah, if the team does decide to participate in this I'm not going to force her not to go. You guys are right, she shouldn't miss out just because of a difference of opinion on my part. It would be different if this were, say... a religious organization that discriminated against LGBT people or some...

Thank you for your reply ArielsSong. I actually did google 'Autism Speaks bad' and came up with some good recent articles on the controversies (including one by a father in a situation similar to mine). I've discussed this with my boyfriend (my step-daughter's father - though we're not married, we'v...

Exhausted, embarrassed, depressed. There's a tiny bit of relief in there too, sometimes, but I typically feel too guilty to enjoy it. Afterwards there's typically a 'shutdown period' that can last anywhere from five minutes to an hour, where I lay there, staring into space, unable to speak or move. ...

Okay, so I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put this in, but I've run into an awkward situation involving my step-daughter and I'm not sure how to approach it. First off, she is neurotypical. I am not. I strongly suspect I'm autistic, based on A LOT of research, and have just started taking ...

How did you commence a relationship with him without flirting? We were friends for about a year before we became friends with benefits (thanks to a night involving too much alcohol), and then that turned into an actual relationship. I'd only dated a handful of people before that, and the longest I...
