It's often (or so ive been told) because noone knows how to respond. Alternatively people might be waiting for you to elaborate on a point you made a little too concisely. It's not uncommon for aspies to make lateral connections and forget to make their thinking process clear.

Synthesisers might be worth a look. Try out things like Nord Leads or anything by Korg or Moog. You can play the keyboard with one hand and really make drastic changes to the sound "morphology" with the other.
