That's very typical for those of us with ASD. All I'd say is you must be very careful when it comes to future career choices. You must only pursue and kind of employment that you would do for free. If you pursue a job in something that does not interest you, you will set off on a course for depressi...

I sport this trinity of diagnoses....and not without some pride. For my sins, I also have arthritis to a degree that surgeons refuse to operate on me anymore. I've joined this place, as I relate very well to others on the spectrum and especially those with a sense of humour. I belong to The Fighting...

It can be a vicious circle, if you're not careful. I"ve lived alone since after separating amicably, I moved in with my parents. They both have now passed away and I just have contact with my partner , whom I met a year ago. When my parents died, I was a bit afraid of living totally alone, but ...

My God, I had no idea this was an autisctic characteristic. For years....literally years, people have pointed this out about me. It cost me dearly in the job I used to be in, as I was a Manager, and used to get picked up on how much I would avoid conflict, when other Managers seemed to relish in the...

Are the below true about you? 1. You have and have had since as long as you can remember, obsessive special interests that prohibit you living a normal life and adversely affect those close to you. 2. You have and have had since as long as you can remember, problems with communication that prohibit ...

Thanks, I guess I'll just see how it goes. I'm guessing this forum has ballooned since it started - I know it is well renounded. There's a local bike shop near me that works with the ASD community, so I might just pop in and see what happens there. I haven't even got my diagnostic report yet, which ...

Hi, I saw you were new and wanted to say Hello. I've just joined - I'm not that long diagnosed, so it seemed pretty logical to come here. I tried a similar site, but I found an awful lot of venting and complaining going on, so I didn't really like it. I've no idea what to expect here: Hopefully, I'l...

Hello Everyone, It was a Pain Management Consultant who started me on this spectral journey. During a discussion about my arthritis, he rather brazenly alluded to the fact he knows someone very like me with "Asperger's". I wasn't surprised, as I already have diagnoses of ADHD Combined Type...

As an ASD adult, it gives me comfort to know that one person, universally celebrated at this time of year, most likely is too. Consider the following - Q. Do you prefer to do things with others or on you own? A. The elves help somewhat, but I generally prefer delivering the presents myself Q. Do you...

I bet we all get taken for both. If we are called on to comment on anything related to our special interest it'll be "Wow....How come you know all that?" or that look people give you when you pay for something in a shop, then leave whilst forgetting to take it with you... :)

This is reaaaallllly common, although I'm not sure if it's specific to Asperger's or even the whole spectrum. The long and short of it is that the gear in your brain you engage when you concentrate to a particular degree causes you to lose some control over another part of the brain that manages mot...

Whether it's an Aspie thing to be very private; I don't know, but I do not use any social media of any kind. I think everything is far too public these days and the concept that posting to the world " Waiting for the bus, before I go home for a PotNoodle" on Twitter is no less than inane. ...

I'm probably not that great at this....In fact, more likely awful.
I seem to only be able to process verbal communication, and when I do I take it 100% literally.
It's really not easy and can be very isolating.

By the term "learn", I'd take that as the the ability to absorb, understand, store, then re-use information on a process, fact or concept. If that's the case, then it's huuuugely dependent on the subject matter for me: If the subject in question floats by boat to the right degree, then I t...
