I love the feeling of fiber in my hands, even scratchy ones that I would never wear. I am new to recognizing my Aspergers and didn't realize my finger-fidgeting is actually stimmimg. Knitting, crocheting and spinning provide a sort of stimming as well. It helps the jangly edges go away. I now think ...

SharonB, crossposted .. and yes as I just wrote I have atypical reactions to meds. :) I feel like everyone here is a mind reader as you are anticipating everything I am saying. I am generally leery of drugs in general. Especially as I really only feel that bad occasionally. It is not ruining my life...

LOL. My PhD is in psychology. Seriously! But not clinical etc and mental health is not something I am any more knowledgeable about than a layperson. I used to do research on acquisition of computer skill. But I have been out of that for a long time, and my job is very computer-centric. What you say ...

Jimmy m, thanks ... and wow. I have read a bunch of places that Aspergers has been defined out of existence in the US which makes no sense to me if it is really different from high functioning autism. But from what you write they are truly different. I need to think about all of this a lot more. My ...

And does it actually help?

SharonB, that is so helpful and could actually be a couple different conversations in my household. I can't stand it when somebody tells me "just relax" or "don't worry" because as you say - if I could just turn it off, obviously I would. So them saying that just makes me feel de...

Re the benefit of diagnosis - mostly I am OK, unless put into one of those environments that overload me. I really appreciate the differing perspectives on this in your various replies. I see a couple of potential benefits to diagnosis. One of them is - would medication help? E.g. a SSRI for depres...

Thanks all for your answers. I am processing all of this. Please forgive me for typing a lot below. I'm going to break it into two posts - I can be very verbose, especially in writing. This post is about the issues I have. The next one will be about whether therapy can help with them. I know that th...

Hi everyone. I am new here and feel a little nervous. I am 57 and have never been diagnosed, though TBH I have been wondering if Apergers is my issue for a while. But it was when my husband recently asked me if this sounded like me that I really started thinking hard about it. My first question is ....
