Perhaps that's the case for a lot of us. Me in my office today: "Why am I sat here spending most of my time in this office when my doomsday is approaching?" "The slow path to doomsday" I call it. It is likely to be a while into the future, but I don't know that for sure, and it d...

Seems like from a young age I've always been prone to not particularly gaining pleasure from things that others apparently do. Although anxiety issues and problems with interacting perhaps cut off a potentially big source of enjoyment for me - socialising. I have struggled with addictions of various...

I've also been struggling a little with the heat. Often, I find that I sleep best if I make myself a little cold before bed, to the point where I can't wait to get under the bedsheets. Of course, that's not always possible when it is super hot. But generally losing a layer or taking a cold shower ca...

I'll soon be starting a job, for which the commute which will involve a 20 minute walk alongside busy roads. The noise in particular is a big problem for me when it comes to my sensory issues. The job is a huge opportunity for me so I need to try my best to make sure it works out. I've done a few &q...

I believe it is not useful to label people as left, right, centrist, etc based on their political views. It is such a shallow and unhelpful way of looking at things that there is no point in even using it. In reality, I think most people's views are so complex and so spread across a vast spectrum th...

I often wonder where my sensory overload issues come from. I'd say if I could alleviate any single "issue" that I have, it would be the sensory overload. Sometimes I don't know what the problem is. Sometimes everything just feels so overwhelming, almost like all the sounds and sensations a...

I refer to it as "the hidden discrimination". Understandably, if a job requires one to drive around a lot, or if the company site is in a remote location, then there is very little choice but to expect the candidate to have a car. However, I've experienced possible discrimination in jobs t...

For me, school in particular was a time of much loneliness and isolation. I never felt that I fitted in with any crowd. People felt like aliens to me. Why would they spend their day talking about these things that to me have no real interest or value? And why were people so mean to the people they c...

Congrats on the upcoming assessment! Let us know what happens, if you want! I'm currently on the waiting list for mine - after going 25 years without a diagnosis, I'm not too frustrated about having to wait another few years. But I'm looking into what else may aid me in the meantime - for example lo...

I also aim to reach that "zen" state.
What is stopping me is my faith - I am still a relatively new Christian, and my belief isn't quite at the level where I can say I'm sure that there is a life beyond this one. But I hope to get to the level that you described. |

I have been plagued with them since I was around 12 or 13 - almost certainly IBS. I also remember this being a time when my issues with anxiety really began. So I think for me, there might be a link right there. I'm still trying to fix them, but by making dietary changes, such as cutting out most da...

Do you think that anxiety is common in ASD people, even at times when there isn't any apparent "trigger" or "overload"? I find it hard at times to tell what is causing my anxiety, while at other times it is obvious (such as the "overload" from being in a crowded place)....

You know what's absurd? The job market. However, more specifically, the world of volunteering. You think, oh I'll volunteer to gain experience for my CV so I can appeal to employers. Unfortunately, everyone else is thinking that as well and suddenly you're back to competing. For a position that doe...
