I have a female friend who's more autistic than me and she says that people don't guess she has autism unless they're told. When people say "you don't look autistic", I think they mean that you don't look stereotypically autistic. I guess stereotypical autistic is supposed to be a nerdy a...

Good luck with other degrees then. They require much less learning. Medicine, law and computer science are literally the hardest degrees.

Unqualified workers are already being replaced by AI

So the conclusion is to neet and rot on the sofa. I hope that everyone sees that it's a bad idea

It is rude

And yes, I have also heard the angry "Are you deaf?! !!" to which I reply "Yes, I am and screw off", because I am hard of hearing and it's rude to call someone deaf as an offence.

I have been asked if I have Asperger's my whole life. Or less polite situations during my Bachelor's degree. The people I told weren't surprised. A lot of people I don't know well question me about it, assume I don't have a clue about social interactions, call me nicknames like professor, Sherlock o...

I'm not sure, it depends what the pill would do. I also think my ASD has upsides or rather not the ASD itself, but it has to result from the same reasons as what makes my life enjoyable and successful. I know many languages and work in IT and science, it's very interesting by itself, but to be hones...

It is not to mufdy the waters. The understanding of the condition is changing. Being "autistic". Autistic traits don't have to be accompanied by a "loss of function", and they aren't pathological on their own. However, there is the medical condition called ASD that by definition ...

I struggle to understand the point of the post as well. Is it that classical autism has struggles beyond social exclusion and judgement?

I don't think deep breathing does anything to my emotions at all. Or very little if it does.

Stimming is healthy and helps neurodivergent people self-regulate.

True, I wouldn't want to be the DEI hire either. Rather hired because of qualifications. And the author of the article has a good point that a lot of people need the accommodations, and they aren't bad students or otherwise "qualified" due to an arbitrary set of criteria. It doesn't mean t...

What does it mean in practice to "amplify voices"? I hope this is not an odd question to ask on a forum for autistics. No, it is not an odd question at all :) To me, it means to advocate for people who are more oppressed than I am, because the general population usually listens to the mor...

High Needs Autistic Self-Advocates is what you are trying to describe. If there are any "severe" or "low functiong" self-advocates out there, I'll be more than happy to accept and intake their voices and needs. However, I do acknowledge the fact that non-verbal and high support ...

I don't think deep breathing has ever helped me. Neither did meditation Walking and physical activity help process emotions, however For self-harm there are lots of recommendations such as squeezing ice cubes or stress balls And other stims Crying is also a gold natural way to process feelings Whate...

Its an interesting topic. There does appear to be a higher percentage of people identifying as LGBTQ+ within the Autistic community. I sometimes wonder whether a persistent drive for authenticity with less focus on meeting social expectations within our neurotype is a key factor? Agreed, imo it's t...
