I used to take exception to the word 'Obsession', but then I realised that it was used by people who thought they were more entitled to my attention than the things that really interest me. Suddenly, 'Obsession' became a meaningless social judgement that should not impinge upon me since those people...

It did not occur to me to wonder about past acquaintances until I saw this thread. I have a long history of encountering 'situational acquaintances' which means people you know simply because you are in a certain situation, eg school, college, work, etc. Given that they were only ever acquaintances ...

Actually, I saw a programme about applying DSM-IV-TR Criteria to a Corporate Entity as though it were a Person, and the diagnosis they came up with was NPD or Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

| When I was doing Comp.Sci at college in the early 1990's there was much talk of Object Oriented programming and although that is only a technical framework, the idea of separating out various parts of an elaborate and complex programs seemed to underpin the ideology behind this shift in approach. | I suppose in a sense I did become obsessed with it, though it was more to do with discovering something that could actually explain almost my entire life rather than the actual topic itself. I do spend a lot of time looking into it but while it is possible to have an obsession with something like co... |

There is the 'tall poppy' syndrome and if your major strength is that you work hard, you tend to find that it causes a 'rift' in the social network which can unbalance things. What can happen then is that other employees will slack off so that you end up under too much pressure, or those other emplo...

This type of managerial strategy can best be summed up with the phrase "I know, let's you and him fight!". It is a classic divide and rule tactic which is designed to manipulate people through fear. This type of practice will really take off because if workers and their peers combined forces, ie joi...

I never used to relate touch with caring either until a few years ago. A very close friend was going through a very difficult loss and it was one of my ways to "be there" for him. Then I started thinking about how everyone else's families greeted one another with hugs.. Some families are not very '...

When I want to isolate myself I use an MP3 player. Nothing says "don't talk to me" as clearly as totally ignoring someone because you can't hear them. :-) And then somebody will try to 'start a conversation' by tapping you on the shoulder and demanding to know what you're listening to. Telling them...

I am a terrible procrastinator as well but I don't know if it has much to do with AS. All my college work assignments usually ended up being completed the night before and that went wholly against my own preferences, but sometimes, just getting started on something can be so difficult. Some of those who believe in Psychodynamic (counselling, therapy approaches) think that children with ADHD are 'acting out' problems to do with the relationships they have with other members of their family. ...

The only real damage to health about this is that there are so many pressures on people to conform to the norm and 'perform'. The mass media is saturated with sexual iconography and most advertising is done on the basis of it. I also think it is vastly over-rated but this is me being 41 years old an...
