FiveEggsIn: I don't know if I have alexithymia, as I don't know enough how to differentiate between it and other possible conditions. It should have been very clear, though, from the many conversations my evaluator had with me, that I am far from normal, where emotions and empathy are concerned. I ...

:D And, I have struck out. Evaluator Dude now says he does not believe I have Asperger's, and sees no point in continuing to evaluate for AS...despite having never actually performed an appropriate evaluation for it, in the first place - as the only one who's ever been asking the standard questions ...

Callista: This is a grad student, earning his PhD, supervised by (I think) the head of psychology. So, his knowledge is very, very fresh and up-to-date, but his experience is somewhat limited. He's quite professional, but it does seem likely that he has never met a "well-trained" person with AS. I'...

First off: many thanks to all who have responded, thus far. Hearing others describe similar thoughts and experiences not only reaffirms my own, but will hopefully provide valuable insight for Evaluator Dude. :D I had another appointment on Monday, and apologized, straight off, for my sort-of/almost ...

Hi TiffOfDoom: A) I think my sense of humor is pretty good, but most people find it too esoteric to be understood. However, my boyfriend who also has AS has a very funny, and very topical, sense of humor. I'm unusually funny, and funny in unusual ways. I've been told I have a very British sense of ...

One of the tests i had to do was a visual one where you have a series of images of peoples eyes and you have to pick their emotion from 4 options. I found this almost impossible. Is it something you have tried yet? I have not been given that test, in this evaluation, but I've tried two different ve...

Tiffofdoom, I would caution against going to see someone for a DX who is not well versed in ASD's. I really mean that sincerely. Good luck. I'm pretty limited, right now. I'd love to find a neuropsych with AS experience, but we can't afford it...and our area isn't exactly bursting with qualified pr...

matrixlover: Although it may not be the way in which you'd intended this to be taken, I cannot help but read the above as quite a lot of excitable screaming. I've never understood why people can become so agitated at being presented with new information that does not agree with them. Most especiall...

See, me personally? I can't fathom ANY person finding out their child or themselves even MIGHT be autistic/aspergian/etc, and NOT wanting to learn every single thing they can about it. My husband, who is strange in somewhat Aspergian ways, but seems neurotypical, overall, is not very interested in a...

Just wanted to say thanks, to everyone who's replied, thus far. My next appointment is this Monday, so my idea is to print this whole thread out, and hand that to the evaluator - just "Here. You should probably read this," lol. And since they seem to use only the DSM-IV criteria, rather than any of ...

Lol. My 7yr old daughter gets SO perturbed over the "monster" issue. She's quite sensible, you see, and cannot BEAR hearing any nonsense about monsters. Which, naturally, gives me cause to tease her, as much as possible. I mean, this child will argue herself blue in the face, at the very SUGGESTION ...

Lelia: Thank God we've never had to go through anything as scary as that. I do know what you mean, though, about doctors not being able to see past one condition, to figure out the problem. Our son has a lazy eye, and growth issues, so we're constantly having to say "YES, we DO know he's tiny." "YE...

1. Do you have a specific set of stimming activities that you always engage in, or do you vary with some of them(i mean, do you come up with new stimmy things to do depending on the situation or what objects are available at the time.. or maybe just come up with something new out of the blue someti...

From what I've seen, looking into this particular test, there are specific areas in which deletion or replication have been commonly associated with Autism and similar spectrum conditions. So, if you test a child with odd behavior, and find these results, it is assumed as a firm diagnosis of ASD. Bu...

Anyone have any experience with using genetic testing to diagnose Asperger's? Our son's pediatric neurologist ordered chromosomal microarray, and we're supposed to get the results back, next week (or that's what I assume, anyway, since we have another appointment & enough time will have passed)....

I'm not like that, but my oldest daughter (7) is. She hugs any grown-up she even half-likes, and tells them she loves them. Apparently, it sticks out enough for normal folks to notice, as she now has a reputation for it, among her teachers and such, at school. Her "lovey-ness" is hilarious, because ...
