Google the term n-back. This free game (and it's many variants) is proven to increase what is termed "working memory". I personally like Brain Workshop.

Taking 5-HTP before a meal can interfere with digestion. Tryptophan, another mood enhancer in the exact same chemical cascade, does not have this effect.
