1. How do you feel about the point we are at with the research on Asperger’s Syndrome and exactly what needs to be looked into? I think we should look at ways to improve the quality of life for people with autism, instead of using counselling to teach them how to act neurotypical. I had counselling ...

If you're really curious about what high functioning and low functioning autistics have in common, you could ask without using word like "ret*d spaz" or bringing up offensive stereotypes. Or better yet, do a little bit of research for yourself, instead of offending everyone. FYI You can have average...

Sometimes I wonder...I can get sexually attracted to men but the thought of actually having sex fills me with anxiety about being used or getting pregnant. It's hard for me to imagine sex as pleasurable (yes, I am a virgin) since I don't like to be touched and I especially don't like being naked. I ...

I have AS and sometimes I sing or hum to myself. Sometimes I'll do it without realizing I'm doing it, until someone tells me to stop lol. I think it's a way of stimming, but sometimes I do it intentionally to calm myself down.

I do experience more anxiety than the average person on a day-to-day basis but my anxiety is not severe enough to earn a diagnosis. I primarily experience social anxiety, but I do not have a lot of performance anxiety. Mainly, I worry about people around me judging me and thinking less of me every t...

I'm an Aspie and a nursing student, and I think if you like to help people and you are comfortable talking to new people, then it would be a good job to consider. It is a lot of work and you do have to talk to a new patient every week while you're in your clinicals. Being a nurse also requires you t...

In addition to AS, I also have dysmic depression and social anxiety. I was just diagnosed w/ dysthmia about 5 months ago. I'm seeing a counsellor but it hasn't helped much. I'm just tired of being sick. The dysthmia has caused the most problems for me. I don't even mind my AS.

All autistics are different, knowing one person with an ASD does not make you an expert on autism or an expert on autistic people. Aspergers is more than severe shyness, people can overcome shyness but no amount of self help books will make me want to introduce myself to strange people (which is som...

People probably find it controversial because it suggests that Aspies are superior to NTs. If there was an NT supremacist/separatist movement (one could argue that there are several NT supremacist groups in power), I'm sure all of you would be offended. One group is not superior to the other. HFAs, ...

The beginning of the video reveals how little some people know about autism, even when they know someone with the disorder. I like that they had an autistic person define autism as a disorder, and not a disease. It's a small step in the right direction for Autsim Speaks.
