In high school I too eschewed homework. For me it was just a big waste of time, it felt like jumping through hoops. I figured I was already proving that I had learned the material on the test, so what was the point in practicing something I had perfect on the first try? So I spent my time on my spec...

Another strategy which works well for me is to lower the temperature of the room. In Washington state it's easy enough, just open a window!
Insomnia sucks. |

Bit of a push drawing comparison between genocide and cannibalism and "looking fir UFOs" or "stealing money" dont you think? To say the least. In fact, I don't agree that McKinnon's actions are nearly as heinous as the punishment he's facing. I tried to read the source of the wikipedia claim, but i...

Coincidentally, today I was looking at the list of historical figures suspected to have been autistic on wikipedia (don't feel like linking to it), and I found speculation that more than a few of the worst of the worst have been speculated to have been on the spectrum. People like Hiter, Dahmer, etc...

OKCupid is pretty good and freemium. I never paid for it and I have written to a few girls and gone on a couple of dates from people I met there. At the very least it is good at matching you with compatible people -- that is to say it knows 'my type'. Also there are tons of user-generated tests :D ...

Of course many of us aspies enjoy systems, so it's really tempting (and a promising avenue to pursue, IMO) to systematize our common condition. I wonder how to breakdown the difference between verbal and written communication. For myself, I feel like I communicate very well in writing -- but often I...

A spectrum within a spectrum! I would classify myself as a Master Communicator, and a mixture between Artist and Techie -- probably 50-50. I'm a professional musician (I'm proficient on guitar, keyboards, vocals, and clarinet) and audio engineer, but I also passed the CCNA exam about ten years ago -...

This is probably a radical idea I know, but could the therapy be structured around making use of a "special interest"? Actually sometimes I do explore wacky ideas in therapy. Wacky ideas being one of my "special interests". Last week I told her my thought about actually inventing Petit Perception. ...

Well, I am a native english speaker.. so I'm glad :) I guess the important part of communication is being understood, so as long as that's true we're good. And I'm also glad I don't have to worry about being cured anytime soon :) I have to go out of the county to see my therapist. It's a 1.5 hour tr...

Maggiedoll: I think that a lot of people with undiagnosed ASDs have trouble in therapy largely because therapists get frustrated that they can't understand them. Even though most therapists don't deal with medication, so much research in psychology is still based on what drug companies can make a pr...

hello glarbl_blarbl. Welcome home to WrongPlanet. I have been going to 'therapy' for 6 months now, and on ssri re-uptake inhibitors and a psychic energizer ... I am not interested in having conflicts and have to back track and apologize and try to fix things that could have been avoided in the firs...

I started seeing a therapist about a year ago. I decided to do so after a really bad bout of depression last year, and having realized that I was probably an Aspie I looked for a therapist who specializes in ASD. She is awesome! I feel so much more able to cope with life now than I did last year and...
