@Nier Nope, no physics jokes of any kind yet here. But as you can see, I am not exactly a prolific poster. As for our own jokes, we tend to mainly inherit from chemistry and math. Ion to buddy, "I think I've lost an electron!" Buddy, "Are you sure?" Ion, "I'm positive!" @Anie I saw two or three cand...

I saw an earlier release of this on PhysOrg months ago. I find it interesting, but not cause for the mass silliness this projectworldawareness site is promoting. It is only a fraction of a percent effect. It took the researchers months of data to determine it was not just noise or some other systema...

I would say yes since I believe I ride that line. As a psychologist put it, I am not robotic enough to be an Aspie. But I am not NT enough to understand body language or inflection. I am Aspie enough to have mild auditory problems, enough to make me overload. But I am NT enough to do fine in social ...

I find that white noise really helps me keep my mind clear. Fans, rain, ocean. Also staying distracted by a familiar song or musical piece. I used to go to sleep to Enigma's 1990 a.d. Forty minutes of easy familiar sound. Also because I am a frequent insomniac, when I can't sleep, I take OTC melaton...

@Acacia I too seem to be automatically trusted. I seem to transmit trustworthy; at least when I don't do something socially awkward to identify me as creepy. Fortunately I have learned to avoid many behaviours that others find creepy. @just-lou I am enough in the gray area between socially incompete...

Nope Nier, you would be the first collapsed wavefunction joke. This particular tongue-in-cheek name was thought of and turned into a T-shirt by a grad student I worked with when I was in undergrad. But it is nice and applicable since I am an atomic/molecular/optics (AMO) physicist. And since I work ...

I have found that I have significant trust issues. Previously I inherently trusted people, because I did not think about possible dishonesty. But many times I have had that trust abused. And once someone has abused my trust once, it is almost impossible to get it back. I suspect this is because I ha...

Like most things I am of at least two minds about this. I firmly believe in a parent's right to make choices for their children that they believe will be in the child's best interest. However I do not think they are sufficiently informed by Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks seems to believe in a one size...

I would not know if it is unusual, but I have had some similar experiences. Very frequently I lose linear focus reading and take in the whole gestalt of a paragraph with my visual field picking up the key words only and stringing the ideas together. I can do it on purpose for a form of speed reading...

This seems to have become an improptu thin/thick skinned survey. I must cast my lot with just-lou. When it becomes obvious that someone is trying to push my buttons to get a rise out of me, the value of their words drops significantly. Of course I have been a submariner where one of the great passti...

Welcome to WP Will. I have to say I often feel as you do about social interactions, though I am known for constantly talking about obscure things from my head full of useless knowledge rather than stopping talking. But it has the same effect, you do not really connect with the people/conversation. I...

I often feel like society wants me to be an Aspie. At least in the stereotype of someone very technically competant, but not wanting to be involved in social circles. Like a good little robot purpose made to make the lives of the full humans easier. They want you to be technical and productive and a...

I cannot tell you if it is an Aspie thing, but I have definite problems with the concept of "favorites." I like different things for different reasons when others insist that one must be my favorite. I find calling something a favorite is an oversimplification.

[quote="Sparrowrose]After I saw that so many of my friends were being rejected to participate in eHarmony, I took the screening out of curiosity (I have no interest in seeking a partner) and it accepted me. Someone else I know who is more familiar with psychology than I took the screening, also out ...

Thank you for the Welcome. I am only working on my thesis a little now, got to get some more results before I write it full time. Therefore good luck is greatly appreciated. I was thinking of asking you what psychophysics was, but I found your explaination in another thread. Interesting, I was not ...

I was once put on a low dose (50mG before bed) of Trazadone to help with my sleep disturbances. It did help with that, but it also seemed to greatly amplify my paranoid tendencies. I went from mild paranoia that I recognized as such to thinking my colleagues were conspiring against me. I finally hit...
