I do this sometimes, especially if I am anxious about something. Most recently it was the song "fear" by Mind In A Box. It seemed to take me out of myself and into an almost dream state - I nearly missed my bus stop.

I too never went through that teenage rebellious phase. I liked to study, my parents liked me to study and I used to hide away with my books and music.
My younger brother who is very outgoing spent his teenage in a contant stream of arguments, shouting, slamming doors and sulking

My special interest (electric power grids) has broadened over the years to include several other similar interests.
I do, however, also have other interests that are not at all related to my special interest.

I try to avoid them in the first place. When I do have to go I usually seek out the quietest place I can find. Often people who also hate the noise and crowds gravitate to the same place. I have had some very interesting converstions with such people.
