My 14-year old son struggles with the same issue. He cannot give his opinion on any topic that he hasn't personally experienced. He usually just shrugs and says he doesn't know. It makes it difficult to make future plans such as what he might want to study in college or even what type of college he ...

Hmmmm, I think I would like it better to discuss my special interests with other fellow Aspies since they understand the "obsession" part of the interest more then NT's do.

I would love to see a section/category about Special Interests! This way people can talk with others who share in their special interests too. For example, my current obsession is Genealogy. Would love to chat with others about their discoveries about their family trees.

I was just thinking about this topic a few days ago. I live in an Aspie family (all four of us are on the spectrum in one form or another) and I am the only one who cleans. I hate it so I always find something else to do when we are home (like right now, I should be cleaning but visiting WP instead!...

Thank you everyone for all your responses! After reading through all of them, I wouldn't say I am depressed but definitely have the feeling that something is "lost". I have dabbled back into it a few times since the original post and not fully back into my interest yet but also haven't found a new o...

That happens to me too if I am talking with someone about a very exciting or stressful topic. It's usually happens when it's an "extreme" situation. It typically only occurs with me a few times a year. When it happens, I worry that the person or people I am talking with will notice so I try to contr...

I find I cannot watch movies or read fiction books if they trigger sad emotions. I know they are not real but I cannot help it. I feel there is enough sadness in the world dealing with real-life situations involving family, friends and even world/local news. I don't understand how people can subject...

The comfort of shoes is VERY important to me. As I am getting older, I am starting to have problems with my feet so I have to have a wide "toe box" in my shoes. Because of this, I cannot wear any shoe that goes to a point at the toes (most high heels) and anything narrow. Typically, if I find a shoe...

In my house, we call it "parallel play". My family enjoys being together in one room but doing our own thing. Typically, I will be on my laptop or Ipad. My husband will be watching TV or playing Skyrim. Our son will be on the desktop and our daughter will be siting on the couch too on her laptop. We...

I noticed something about myself this morning. I have been sort of depressed for about a week. Last week I suddenly lost interest in my latest obsession. I was heavily into it for four straight months, spending hours a day doing it (genealogy). I found myself this week "looking" for a new one but no...

My husband feels the same way. He's been doing the same type of job for the last 27 years. He's been offered a supervisory positions numerous times over the years and always turns them down. He does not want to deal with telling others what to do and being the person that has to deal with upper mana...

I also think it's people with Asperger's that has given our species the techniques and intelligence to move us forward. When you look back in history, doesn't most of the inventors/scientists seem to have traits of Asperger's? Most of them are loners and have intense interests/obsessions and those a...

I have to go to a baby shower tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it. Not crazy about the hour drive and not knowing where I am going (thank goodness for GPS!) Then having to have small talk with a lot of people I only see at weddings, funerals and the occasional baby shower. Typically, I get v...

I heard it for the first time about a month ago while my husband was watching a live sporting event. It sounds like the old handheld football video game from the 80's. It's only a 4-digit tone but it repeats every 2 to 3 seconds. It DRIVES me crazy!! ! It was very distracting! I have been noticing i...
