Thanks for your replies. Thinking maybe it's not that irrational if your balance isn't great. I remember going ice skating a few years ago and bursting into tears as I was just so overwhelmed by how much I hated the sensation. I think I was just shocked that I had such a strong reaction (and very em...

Mummy_of_Peanut - the weather today is what made me think to ask the question. I nearly slipped on the way to work and had such a jolt of fear that I felt shaken all the way to work and I hadn't even hurt myself. I'm not looking forward to walking home tonight 8O . I am very clumsy and have to very ...

That's a strange one SylviaLynn - will have a google, thank you. I do remember loving to spin as a child but I can't bear to watch even a swift camera-pan (not sure of the term!) these days. Izzeme - I should have been more specific. I meant a fear that was more heightened than perhaps in the averag...

Thanks again Barnabear, that really does help. Good advice. I do need to bear in mind that they are there for people like me even if I'm not actually Aspergian. Think I might just spring it upon myself when I'm not looking

Just curious - I've always had an irrational fear of falling in the sense that I absolutely hate any activity that involves me feeling unsteady on my feet (eg iceskating, skateboarding and so on), and I wondered if this was related to Aspergers? Not diagnosed but kind of self-diagnosed. Seems like b...

Thanks Barnabear, I do need to contact the NAS but feel a bit like I don't know where to start. Need to write myself a little speech or something first (am pretty useless on the phone, particularly when it's asking for help - two weaknesses rolled into one!) Silly really because it's completely domi...

Skills, barnabear! :D
Thanks very much for doing that for me, I would never know where to begin with something like that!
Must have a read through that when I get chance and see if I can work up the energy to fight my corner

Barnabear - I live in Staffordshire (hope that's specific enough - PM me if more info needed)

Az29 - sounds like a good result in the end, and maybe they could interview your mum over the phone?

Well, I went back to my GP and he reiterated that there simply were no services for adult autism. I said that I couldn't believe that that was true (not that he was lying, just that it was a bad situation). He said he would refer me to the Community Mental Health Nurse Team, which he has done, and I...

Thank you all for your replies. Looks like it is a bit of a lottery! It is hard to believe there is so little help available. If I have any luck with the GP/NAS I will update.

2000namesl8r - Don't feel like you can't post on here. Maybe you should try posting in the haven forum? Sounds like you're pretty down and I think that forum is for that purpose. You never know, someone might be able to help there. DreamSofa - Thanks for the info. I have to agree, it does sound like...

Thanks Bloodheart, I will try the NAS...just need to work out my speech! It seems to be the case for a lot of people that they get stuck playing ping pong with their GP. DC, this is exactly what I am hoping to avoid. It's hard when you feel like you've finally found the answer to your problems, so t...

DreamSofa - that's still a massive amount of money but it is far less than I expected. Does that cover everything? And was it just one session?

Thanks

2000namesl8r - I am just finding that out myself (not personally, just from what I've been reading/researching). I can't believe that adults with ASDs get so little support - surely there are thousands of people without access to treatment. I've just had a look on the website LittleBlackCat suggeste...

Also...LittleBlackCat - would your GP not refer you to a consultant or do you not want them to (for whatever reason)? Surely if you need help they would refer you (I realise that sounds like a joke considering the trouble people have getting referred)? I've seen psychiatrists for depression several ...
