I used to work at a place that had flex time - you could come to work anytime between 7 am and 10 am. Being a late riser, I always chose the latter. I had a boss that used to schedule meetings at 7 am and I was forced to come in early to attend. This was so hard to do. Any time that I have to use an...

I think that whenever a person is diagnosed with any condition, they have a tendency to blame everything on that condition. When I read the wiki article about the non-24 hour sleep pattern, it didn't mention autism but it did state that it was a neurological condition caused by genetic abnormalities...

When I have multiple days off in a row (rare) I do notice that my bedtime will creep later and later each night, resulting in hitting snooze more and more each morning. But I have no issue adjusting really for work. My only issue comes if I have to get up unusually early for something. It's hard fo...

I wish I had known this sooner. I have tried to think back, but I am pretty sure we didn't have problems until he reached junior high, and even then, we thought he didn't want to get up because he didn't want to go to school. It wasn't until some time in high school that during the summers his sleep...

I don't think you are bipolar. My daughter knows someone who is bipolar and it is very obvious. The manic phases generally last for days or weeks and the depressive phases about the same. I don't know if racing thoughts are part of the manic phases, but I don't think so. Her doctor told her it is re...

Thank you for the responses, especially the wiki link. I had no idea that it was a defined condition. I thought it might be related to his autism. I can't describe how it makes me feel to know that this is something he has no control over in addition to the autism. I don't see how the treatments sug...

Does anyone else have this problem? My adult son is PDD-NOS. He works at home so he doesn't have to keep to a schedule. He goes to bed and wakes up at different times every day. It seems like he lives on a 26 hour clock - every day he gets up 2 hours later. He works his way around the clock. Half of...

I think every personality trait you have is you. I have known some aspies who I thought were just quirky. Even NT's have some unusual traits, like a black sense of humor and superstitious beliefs. Some NT's are naturally friendly and well-liked; others have to struggle to make friends. You are a uni...

I am a parent of an adult autistic man, so I hope you don't think I am invading on your space but the parent's section is all about little kids. My son has PDD-NOS. It is hard to find anyone to talk about it because almost everyone on these forums has Asperger's. A person with my son's condition is ...

It is good to have the list so you don't forget anything, but if your doctor is anything like some of mine, he won't listen to or read the entire list. So I think you should prioritize. Mention the most disturbing behaviors first. I don't think you need to mention much to the pediatrician to get the...

I'm new here and am very interested in this thread. We're in California USA. My 4YO son has a diagnosed speech & language delay but not autism, although we're suspecting a 'strong' probability based on our observation of his behaviors that he's on the spectrum. I have an IEP scheduled end of No...
