I've been playing around with IE8 by using it as my primary browser for a little while. There's nothing fantastic about it, but it isn't some sort of unusable buggy disaster.

I'm talking about how Vista is monstrously slow and eats up more RAM than all the applications combined (in my case). I have three machines with Windows Vista on them. One with 1GB of Ram, one with 2GB, and one with 4GB. On each machine, RAM usage sits at about 50% with no programs open. That's jus...

This is just another example of how anti-piracy measures don't address the actual problem and prevent entirely legitimate activities. I used to use a legit copy of Age of Empires II, but I got tired of having to carry around a CD along with my laptop just to prove I wasn't a pirate, and when I heard...

I agree that applications are more important than the operating system. The operating system should just get the hell out of the way. Linux, Windows 2000 and XP do a pretty good job of this overall, Vista does not. Could you explain what you mean by this? Vista doesn't get in the way of my ability ...

On my wireless card in Ubuntu, I cannot find any wireless networks with the default utility. I have to install knetworkmanager and run that to find and connect to networks. Perhaps it might be necessary for you as well.

sudo apt-get install knetworkmanager
knetworkmanager

And this is where you lose me. You seem to be trying out some sort of proprietary, Vista only, probably flaky, file sync system, and for some reason expect it to work perfectly under Linux? *nix has been syncing files, reliably, securely, across the internet, forever. rsync/ssh for instance. Person...

The discovery last night that someone managed to compile some KDE 4.1 packages for Kubuntu inspired me to give Linux another go again. Normally, I run Windows Vista on both my Laptop and Desktop and use Offline Files to sync them. All data is stored in one shared folder and accessible to programs on...

To those who prefer Linux, I think you are wrong. It's not possible to be wrong in preferences, as those are subjective. You like Vista. Great- go on and use it. I like Ubuntu, so I'll use that. Neither of us hurts the other by using a different operating system, so why make a fuss about it? I agre...

Ya know, I consider myself a computer enthusiast, but I find myself in a very sad situation where I cannot relate to anyone else who is also a computer enthusiast because I become a target of immature remarks for preferring Vista as my operating system of choice. I used Linux off and on for about 5 ...

Thanks, but I've tried using VMWare as a solution before. It actually made it worse, because each combo of OSs became a new choice, not to mention the brand of VM software. VMWare helped with synchronization a bit, in terms of keeping the same My Documents folder, but I still had trouble with the pr...

I have a very odd addiction: I get tired of the software I use, and have to keep switching to alternatives. I used to think it had to do with the problems found on all of them, but recently, I found myself perfectly happy running a Windows system. Then, I had an urge to switch back to Linux and KDE3...

Still play it, though I use Doomsday to give it 3d models and hi-res textures. I started playing it after it was already considered old, because I was too young to be allowed to play it when it was popular.

I think the fact that she's previously been institutionalized would make me feel calling the police would be appropriate. Of course, without having known this person myself, it's really hard to say what she's like and what she's capable of.

I used to use Pidgin, but I grew very sick of all the problems with it. I then tried to switch to Windows Live Messenger, but I had several friends who refused to use anything but the AIM network, even though they all used a server-neutral product like Pidgin, so I had no choice but to keep Pidgin a...
