| I've been playing around with IE8 by using it as my primary browser for a little while. There's nothing fantastic about it, but it isn't some sort of unusable buggy disaster. |

| I agree that applications are more important than the operating system. The operating system should just get the hell out of the way. On my wireless card in Ubuntu, I cannot find any wireless networks with the default utility. I have to install knetworkmanager and run that to find and connect to networks. Perhaps it might be necessary for you as well.
sudo apt-get install knetworkmanager
