Our first cats (r.i.p) , both girls were named Korshka and Fat Kitty (she was of jabba the hutt proportions). Our current cats are Ozymandias, Astrid, Phillip J. Fry, and Princess. Princess was my mom's cat so we just left her with that name.

When filling out a questionnaire, I was thinking back to my childhood. It dawned on me that I toe walked well past the time that most kids usually stop that, and I don't think mom ever had me checked out for an ASD. It was the early 80s and since I walked and talked at the normal time, I don't think...

I love meltdowns. They taste best with mushroom sauce. :( It sounds like your family handled everything ok. I hope they are not complete strangers to your condition. While I am guessing they might have felt slight irritation, it is probably not near as much as the disdain you feel for yourself. I fe...

Most of my animals I've had during adulthood have had human names. We currently have Adelaide (the dog), Ozymandias (Ozzie for short), Astrid, and Phillip J. Fry (cats). Our now passed guinea pigs were called Hendrix and Marley.

Your husband, if he hasn't helped already, needs to try help out more. Motherhood is a sensory challenge for anyone, and throwing Aspergers into the mix can be awful. Add in fluctuating hormones and it's a perfect storm of suck. If you are by yourself, put the kids in a safe room with nothing where ...

Teacher's aide in a special needs classroom at a high school. I never have trouble relating to the kids. I can understand them needing breaks, lights being too bright, textures being too scratchy, noises being too loud, etc. because I've lived it. I still do, but I've gotten really good at making it ...

I must follow the same morning routine at work every day or I get pretty flustered for the rest of the day.
When I'm eating pretzel twists I have to munch carefully all around the outside first before I eat it.
I have to go to the bathroom two times before bed. |

Try to meet a few new people outside your group, in person, perhaps through activities you are interested in. Already having a common interest can help break the ice a little. I'm not saying you have to have a huge circle of friends, but meeting new people leads to new experiences, all of which you c...

I am 31 and still have a learner's permit. I was mildly intrigued by the idea of learning to drive at the usual age, but once I actually got in the car? Holy Crap!! It was system overload. Trying to watch for other cars, pay attention to the signs, and having slow reaction time made driving a terrif...

This tends to happen to me as well. I suspect it's hormonal thing for me. During the time before my period, it doesn't matter how much sleep I get. I never feel rested. I can be exhausted and still lie awake until 2 or 3 am. I just try to tell myself it's a phase when I get too frustrated, but it do...

I always wanted kids, and have gone on to have two boys who are ages 6 and 9. I always respected people who chose not to have them, because I think people are entitled to their beliefs, but I didn't truly appreciate why people would choose not to have them until I had my own. I adore my children. Th...
