Instead, what we need is a collapse which is suddenly accelerated at which point the hot spot heats to full on fusion and the capsule is violently and virtually instantaneously consumed from the inside out in a fusion reaction. Thirty years from now the problem will still be solvable thirty years i...

I thought the problem was in trying to contain the plasma so that they could maintain fusion. . Tokomags have contained plasma. But the plasma cools down after fusion so more energy is needed to sustain it. Magnetic confinement cannot be maintained with current technology. ruvein It's instabilities...

My question was about the use of the laser to induce fission in a thorium reactor where there is no chain reaction as in conventional fission reactors. From the article I linked earlier: Professor Robert Cywinksi from Huddersfield University said thorium must be bombarded with neutrons to drive the...

Hi! Sorry, I was too busy doing work to answer earlier. I'll reply now :) Just thought I'd chip in. I'm part of a laser plasma team that works really closely with Prof Cywynski on this topic and it's one of my pet interests - I'm running simulations based on shock neutrons at the moment. So although...

I can't get it right. Ever. I naturally process information in my own head so when someone talks to me I pay attention by looking at other things as I think it through.

So when I stare I end up uncomfortable and I end up having to spend more effort looking at them than I do thinking!

I'm sixteen right now. I highly doubt I'll be able to go to college because I just don't have the drive. I can barely get assignments handed in right now. I just don't fit in ANYWHERE. I don't fit in with the normals, alternatives or even the nerds/geeks. Sometimes this makes me think about suicide...

Yes. This has done more damage to my want of being social and my career than anything else in my life. If I could turn off my autism forever, I would do it without hesitation. Sorry guys, but it's not part of my identity. It's a stain on it, a mental imbalance that does no justice to who I am or who...

I'm going to fire this completely off the cuff before I go for a walk to calm myself a bit. Doing my PhD at the moment in laser plasma physics. Completely overwhelmed in information. Got a project to do, 6 weeks to do it. That's fine. IF I could sit down. I sit down to do work, then I come across so...

I have sporadic periods of having an awful lot of sex, but rarely have a stable relationship.

For now, that's the way I like it. As I get older... I don't really know.

Don't know if this has been solved but 999 wizards can be promoted with certainty because they can all see the numbers in front of them. The wizard at the back of the queue AND at the front of the queue has a 1/2 chance of getting his hat wrong. Since every wizard past that point may assume that the...

One modern proposal is for a molten salt reactors, some with thorium. In a molten salt reactor, the salt would be mixed in with the fuel. If it gets too hot, the salt expands which spreads out the fuel and consequently reduces the reactions. If it overheats more, a stopper will melt and let the fue...
