I just called the father and told him, Sorry, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to just come over. He said it's a fair question and to come over when I was ready.
Thanks for all your help and support. You're all wonderful. |

New question: My friends said they would call me to come over. I took this literally, but should I just go over?

You could tell them, honestly, that you want to help them but you don't know how to react--that you want them to feel better, but you're afraid of doing something that will make them feel worse. Thanks, Callista. This is also what I need to know. I've said such things to them in the past about far ...

Sometimes there's a time for intellectual, analytical thinking and expressing those thoughts, and sometimes bland, soothing things are more appropriate. Thanks, BirdInFlight. The use of words like bland really helps too. I'm taking it also as to let things be possibly superficial and shallow. This ...

Thanks so much for your response, nerdygirl. Their son and my son grew up together and are our only children. (My son is out of the country right now and I won't be able to tell him til he gets back.) Well, I don't think I will have to be the point person because the father is a super organized plan...

My best friends' son died of an overdose yesterday while away at school. Everyone is stunned. I'm going to go and be with the mother while the father goes to claim the body. Even though I have a hard time understanding our friendship and friendship in general, my friends have always accepted me as I...

Hypothesis: Simon and Sacha are really the same person, and this whole autism persona is a front for Sacha's idea of reality TV. |

Aspergers seems completely irrelevant. Why bring it up? As mentioned, raising this could potentially help the defense's case, but it also adds to the spread of disinformation about ASDs. Due to this relentless focus on the negative, in the public mind, we are violent, we are bad, we are dangerous. ...

Why aren't the media covering this as voraciously as they push the fanciful notion that autistics are violent? Where are the talking heads? Where are the groups that purport to speak for autistics? 2 Md. Girls Charged With Sexually Abusing Autistic Teen Boy March 12, 2014 http://baltimore.cbslocal.c...

We saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson at San Diego ComicCon last year in a panel discussing the new show. I have a love-hate thing about the Con for so many many reasons, but this was definitely a LOVE moment. Seth MacFarlane managed to keep himself low key -- amazing in and of itself. Originally, the program ...

Personally I find it hard to read people, so for me my affective empathy is poor. No worries, Acedia -- I was hoping to be more clear, but the research on the dual aspects of empathy is fairly new. Also, i think like all things concerning autism, it's up to each of us to figure out where we're at -...

Empathy is reading people. From the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center: " Contemporary researchers often differentiate between two types of empathy: “Affective empathy” refers to the sensations and feelings we get in response to others’ emotions; this can include mirroring what that person is ...

In the UK David Cameron is talking about ending BST and just having the same time as western Europe. But the problem with this is that it will mean in the winter we will be going dark at 3pm and in the summer the sun will rise before 4 am. In Scotland and northern England the sun may not rise until...

Besides the pertinent issues presented herein plus the neocapitalist spin they put onto autism that really gets my goat, my main reason to protest Autism Speaks is because they aren't letting autism speak. In fact, the project now has the effect of silencing autistics. We are either marginalized or ...
