I'm wondering why he would get diagnosed? While I am functioning in society to a certain extent, people generally consider me weird and anti-social. Besides, I seem to have a tendency to offend people without being aware of it. Simply telling them 'I think I have Asperger's' would sound like a lame...

Since I’m in the process of being diagnosed myself at 49 years of age, I have done a good bit of research and agree with the theory of neurodiversity. I feel in no way disabled, and while I have problems functioning on a social basis, I have strengths that most ‘NTs’ don’t have, like many other of u...

I'm 49 years old and just recently discovered I have Asperger's (diagnosis pending). When I look at poems I wrote in the past, I find a lot that almost spell it out, most of all this one which I composed 11 years ago: Xiphias sylvanus He was a swordfish who lived in the wood - he couldn't sing or hu...

Hi Schnozzles, I'm in pretty much the same situation. I read a lot about autism and Asperger's recently, and while I always said that I have autistic traits, slowly everything fell into place. I now know that I have AS, but I'm on the waiting list to be diagnosed because I think telling people I hav...

When it comes to empathy, I do feel empathy for others, even on a global scale. I just find it difficult to display emotions which leads some to the assumption that I don't emphasise with others. As I mentioned earlier, I only realised I must have Asperger's a few weeks ago and await my diagnosis, b...

... a diagnosis does not mean appropriate treatment, since Aspergers (or the disorder formerly known as Aspergers) is seen as something to treat as a defect rather than as human potential to be cultivated. I totally agree. I see it as a state, such as being left-handed or double-jointed. Treating i...

I'm 49 and just joined a waiting list to be diagnosed with Asperger's. We have to take into account that when we were young the syndrome wasn't known, although some of our generation who are affected were diagnosed with "borderline autism", such as Daryl Hannah. In my case, all major signs for autis...

I guess so, and I reckon it perfectly reflects my state of mind.

I just flicked through the poetry collections I wrote over the past decades, and I think if any psychologist had come across them, I might have been diagnosed ages ago ;)

That's a terrible tragedy. I think there should be a lot more awareness about it to help find all those unfortunates who are still unaware of having AS. I haven't remembered any dreams in about a decade, but there's a fragment of one I had last night which I still recall: I was on the corridor of a ...

Thanks very much. It makes one wonder how many others are out there who still don't know what's going on with them. (Now that I'm aware, a few other suspects spring to mind  )

My name is Frank, and I'm 49 years old. For the first half of my life I struggled trying to fit in, for the second half I accepted being different. Since I was a teenager, I realised that I connect better to children than to adults and subsequently became a childcare worker. I seem to relate particu...
