Yes, I'm using some of these techniques ("rain sounds" from Youtube, earplugs)... But my question was rather: is there any way to shift your perception so to became less sensitive to these sounds? Or is it going to stay that way forever? (the perception)

I was always quite sensitive to sounds (that's probably why I became a musician) but it of course has its downside. When I realize that there's some annoing sound around me, it's really difficult for me to forget about it (get over it) and focus on something else. Few months ago (during winter) I mo...

My narrow interests are my joy, and 4/5 people I work with appreciate my expertise. I have carved out a lovely niche by building expertise in an area of narrow interest - I love it! I love this approach! I applied similar aproach in my life and I became a specialist in art/technology projects. What...

(...) for me, the "rest" state is when I am alone and I can't really imagine things being different. I can enjoy social interaction (with my partner, with some friends, even with some colleagues or interesting strangers, usually in 1-to-1 interaction) but (as with most of us I think) it is always t...

One psychiatrist refused to send me to the diagnostic service as I was "not severe enough". Ugh. I got that line too and his rationale was that I hold down a full time job therefore it's not a 'clinically significant' impairment. I wonder if I lost that job and ended up in my parent's basement (sin...

I've just red two contradicting properties of aspies, listed one after another on some non-english website (I'll try to translate it precisely): - Highly developed logical thinking. The ability to invent unique solutions to problems . - Schematic way of thinking . High persistence, even obstinacy in...

I have quite similar experiences. Few years of psychotherapy "fixed me" to the point that I was able to initiate relationships with women and eventually create a family (I have 1,5 year old doughter) and I'm also quite succesful professionally in art/music/technologi field, in which I still develop ...

And why fake it? Because the people in his life have value beyond his immediate needs. If the Aspergers tendency is to speak with no filter and the result is pain to those you love, fake the filter. Count to ten. Think before you speak. The thing is that AS people are "faking it", "counting to ten"...

Hello I'm new here, this is my first post. I'm 33. As in the title, at the moment I'm living some sort of "proper" life, which means that I live with my girlfriend, and we have 1 year old doughter. From quite a time I'm succesfull in what I do professionally (I'm doing niche stuff between art, music...
