Every waking moment...it's because I've always got so many things wrong that I am now programmed to think, think, think before I do anything out of the routine. It buggers me up for days and weeks if I get even the littlest thing wrong in a social exchange. I cringe and cringe and can't face myself...

I haven't noticed that I pause. I think you are reading too much into it, I seriously doubt it's a sign of anything much. I tend to just babble on about whatever comes to my head, as though on autopilot; clutching at straws because I have nothing interesting to say, then I worry for 1/2 an hour afte...

My experience with shrinks is the same. The one who diagnosed me seemed to do a reasonably competent job of that; and he diagnosed me quite quickly. I'm sure there are quite a few of us wasting our abilities in soul destroying office jobs. I'm in corporate regulation; doesn't get much more boring than that. Fortunately my desk faces a window so I can use internet forums whilst I'm supposed to be working.
